So I'm minding my own business in the plaza by Warden and Shepard. This two dudes pulls up in a black impala asking me if I wanted a cheap iPhone 4s. He's selling them for $350 each. They are the 32gb version. I was curious about what they would trying to sell even though it was obviously a scam, so I took a closer look at the phone. It had an aftermarket screen protector (unpeeled) on it. The unit looks real up close and the boxes seems to be real. But the prints on the boxes looks too rough. My wife just bought a new 4s so we knew what to look for.

The phones turn on and the background and icons looks real. But I think it is actually a fake, sophisticated fake not just bricks though.

So keep on a look out!

This time around it's a black Impala, not a white van. Totally legit.

Wait, are you suggesting white vans are sometimes not legit??????????

The video was funny. 4 minutes of how to spot a fake, but after the first line where he says that he "got a deal on Canal street", I'm thinking, what more do you need to know?

If you are buying an iPhone from someone like that, 100% chance is that it is either stolen or fake.

I have a feeling it was the police selling these, atleast that was what I was told a few years back around Warden and Lawrence, buying dinner and these 2 came in selling a new iphone and iPod, shop owner told me it was the cops. Not sure if I believe him, but the location reminded me of the Op's story.

If it was a pawn shop I would believe it since the pawnshop owner could be at fault for not reporting inventory.

The cops don't go around telling random people they have stolen product to sell. I am no lawyer but I play one while I watch TV....that is called entrapment.
