“When you see this movie, kids are going to believe one day that these turtles do exist, when we’re done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race, and they’re going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable.”
Turtles from an alien race?...whadaFaq?....don't believe it?...

As fashionable as it has become to bash him, Michael Bay is one of the most technically proficient directors currently working.
The real question here is who will be writing the script, as the writing will ultimately determine whether this reboot is closer to the quality of Bay's best work (the Rock) or his worst (Pearl Harbor).
Casting will also be key, as certain people can almost single-handedly ruin a film just by opening their mouth (I'm looking at you, Shia Laboeuf)

Director Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: LA, Wrath of the Titans) is reportedly in final negotiations to take charge of the fifth Ninja Turtle film. Explosion lover Michael Bay (Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Bad Boys II) shall produce and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec will create the script

WRONG!!!!
Splinter was Hamato Yoshi's pet rat and the turtles were a little boy's pet turtles before they were dropped down the sewer pipes.

Not only that, but it was the same radioactive ooze that made Daredevil blind.
TMMT was originally a parody.

Dammit this is gonna be a mind numbing action movie with Bay. The reason they got him though is because of the alien angle. Certain writers and directors in Hollywood (Spielberg most notably) continuously make these alien movies and it's not a coincidence imo. The theme is often an alien saviour(s) and that's what they're turning the ninja turtles to.
This might be the conspiracy theorist in me but I've read too much on it and I think there really is a concious hollywood agenda to create alien movies. The # of alien movies over the last 3-5 years has gone waaaaay up. Before 1945, you were usually considered crazy for believing in aliens...now you're considered crazy/small-minded for not believing in them. They probably do exist but it's almost as if the movies have pre-programmed people to believe in them and expect some type of contact. If it does happen then I won't believe it, they're faking it.
Anyways random tangent but I hope someone continues the TMNT movies post-Shredder where they previous ones left off and they aren't animated like the last one was.

He's not WRONG, you're both right..
You are speaking of the movie/comic origin story line.. the other poster was thinking of the 80's/early 90's Cartoon storyline.
anyway this franchise died when TMNT3 came out... They should have continued fighting shredder where 2 left off instead of that time travel crap.
There's no way he could die from a pile of wood as super shredder when he survives getting crushed in a dumpster from the first movie.
After the horrible BAYformers, I don't understand why anyone would care for Michael Bay to touch anything from the past.

How can you say ruined? Michael Bay's movies have raked in at the box office. Sure. They are dumb down versions, economic success.

Meh... you can argue the cartoon ruined the comic book. The original comic books were much more gory and action packed. And the movies ruined the cartoon. Vanilla Ice... that's all I have to say about that.
Bay is only bastardizing something that has been bastardized many times over... but each time make boat loads of money, so it's not like Hollywood cares.

Agreed, I don't see how he can "ruin" the franchise. The original comic was black and white, pretty gritty and adult oriented which many don't even know about. The cartoon was for kids but I liked them because, hey I was a kid! The movies were cheesy as hell but again for kids so how much damage can Bay do to it? TMNT has always been known for being campy and cheesy so it's just a natural progression for Bay to jump all over it. Next up will be a live action Thundercats!

I agree that the story's been bastardized so many times, and people are seeing things with rose coloured glasses because they're familiar with the cartoon (which wasn't a true representation of Eastman and Laird's comic).
However, the turtles being mutants is a core part of the story. Heck, it's even part of the name!
It would be akin to having Bay's Transformers being created by humans.
TANT? That's not right... Give us TMNT dammit!

Needs more explosions.and the obligatory highway chase scene with two trucks after each other.
First truck has a trailer of large circular objects....say large nuclear waste drums which Shredder cuts/releases to stop the Turtles....and the second truck is the turtle van...
Oh wait, I just wrote the highway scene! Someone give me Michael Bay's number...I want to pitch this to him..
Oh wait, I know part of the story...Shredder steals a truck shipment of nuclear waste to create his own army of mutant army to battle the Turtles...
**EDIT- if they want to make the Turtles into aliens....replace above nuclear waste drums with satellite equipment/conductor equipment and Shredder wants to create a large Satellite to signal/transport enemy aliens to Earth to take over Earth and battle the Turtles (sworn alien enemies of the Turtles**
Damn I am good at this...

Exactly....this is why Michael Bay will ruin or has ruined TMNT reboot. TMNT are not aliens....were they aliens in the comics?, were they aliens in the cartoons?...were they aliens in the crappy movies?....They may have been ruined in other aspects but for the reboot of TMNT with turtles being aliens?....yeah...Michael Bay fudged up.
Remember this is a reboot of TMNT....Michael Bay could of gone the best route and gone back to the original creators and comics....instead of aliens.

Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.
Michael
So for now...due to the bolded statement above.....the title of the thread ruined by Michael Bay will be removed.

So sad what Bay is doing to it. I grew up with TMNT and the only way I want my ninja turtles are mutant and teen-aged. Nothing more, nothing less.
More importantly, will they still love pizza?
With that being said, I will try to watch it with an open mind, who knows...it could be good?

There has been so many versions of TMNT that this movie (no matter how bad it could be) would never ruin my fond childhood memories of the Turtles. Same with GI JOE, Transformers, Batman, etc. There are so many different stories over different mediums with these franchises, one crappy story won't destroy what I enjoyed as a child.
Does anyone remember the live tv show on Fox, the one with the 5th turtle who was a female. NOW THAT WAS BAD.

Eh, I don't think Laird and Eastman will influence this movie much. They bent over and let their creation get tarnished every time somebody dropped a pile of money in front of them. Also... they sold all right to TMNT a few years back, so they have no creative control anyways.

They've got to keep it with the original story line, but more serious. Like they did with Batman.
And the picture for the original movie must be some DVD updated pic. This is the real pic used in the original movie.
