Imagine you could travel back in time and give tips to your younger self... what life tips would you tell yourself when your in your final year of university.

I'm about to graduate from university, this is my final year. Give me some advice! Should I travel as much as I can before I graduate and go into the workforce?

that's what I did starting from the end of my 3rd year - went to spain, paris, london and africa in 3 different trips from my 3rd year to about a month after graduation.

most people told me it was a bad idea and that i should've maintained a job instead for experience, but i wouldn't trade the life experiences i gained from those trips for anything, and i got a good job after graduating without any real work experience despite everyone talking about what a terrible market it is and what not.

once you start working it's hard to take time-off, especially your first job after school since you might be working long hours/ have other financial obligations.

i say travel all you can if you have the means to do so! you won't regret it and it will open your eyes to many different perspectives on life in general that you keep with you forever

If you know for sure you can land a job, then take at least 6months off, and travel.

On a more related note, traveling is always a good idea. I didn't have a chance to travel out of school (Had something to do with the $20k~ I owed to OSAP), so I'm working now. I did travel for 2 weeks back in 3rd year (course related study) to Europe, so that was a lot of fun, and it probably saved my sanity. If you have the money(and even if you don't), letting loose for a bit considering you just finished 12 years(or more) of Gr1-12, and 4-5 years of university, you deserve a small break before you head out to a 40+ hour work week in the real world. Work hard, play hard.

Agree with the travel part. But with how the economy is now, I'm not sure if that is practical possible.

As crappy as my life is and has been, I wouldn't change anything. My past experiences have made me who I am. I don't think you should follow other people's advice. It is a good idea to make your own decisions and make your own mistakes, provided you have enough self awareness to learn from your experiences and use them to enrich your life.

+1 to traveling.

I can't really give you much advice since you're graduating, unless I was talking to my 1st year self. I would say make the effort to know the industry you're going to work in well. Most people end up in jobs they don't like because they weren't sure what they wanted to do in school. Don't make that mistake.

Dear young Kris81to.

Drop out now, and get a government job ASAP. Once you've got your fulltime government job, take a leave of absense & go back to school. After school go back to your government job, and move up internally.

Dear young ji2o0k,

Drop out now, and get a TTC job ASAP. Once you've got your fulltime TTC job, take it easy and sleep while on the job and work/sleep lots of OT. You will make six figures easily and move up internally as the years go by.

Hhaha...on a serious note, I would suggest to myself that work hard in first year uni and then work hard in 3rd and 4th year....the last 2 years are important for entrance into grad school (for most schools, some are 4th yr only).

During recruiting season of your 4th year, be prepared for all interviews and work hard to secure your job once you graduate school (with a start date in Sept).

During the summer after you graduate from undergrad....travel and see the world. Enjoy the freedom and worry-free life until work starts in Sept...then it is all downhill from there....LOL!

Do Co-op or make sure you get relevant work experience before you graduate even if it means taking a year later to graduate.

Dear young Audidude,

You should have dropped out a few years earlier and gone to work for Bell. Take all your money and invest it in Microsoft, Dell, Nortel and Cisco. Work lots of OT and become a manager. When 1996 comes take the second package they offer you and invest all your money in the above companies, but add Apple. On August 1st 2000 sell all your Nortel and put your money in the remaining stocks for a few months and then put it all into Apple. Make sure you buy tissues for all your investor friends.

PS if you need to make money for fun, make sure you have vital jobs at companies that are being acquired and you can move up quick. Also for occasional raises move around from company to company. Getting a 5K raise out of a company is difficult, but taking another similar position at another company usually pays 5K and then some.

PPS When the economy is going to tank, migrate down to a needed union position. When the economy is good move up and become a useless manager and go golfing. Repeat cycle until you retire.

Avoid dating any women with the letter "s" in their name, you'll understand later. Now go and make me rich.

Dear 2002 goob3r,

You just started investing with your first $3,000. That's good, but ATI won't be a great choice and it'll take a little time bit to break even. I know you're thinking about buying AMD or AAPL right now. Buy AAPL and hold it for at least 10 years. Keep buying more whenever you can. You will be a millionaire at age 29.

To younger Faemow....

Why are you such a wimp?! Didn't you see ALL the signs the girls gave you and you chickened out?! She was in a towel! MORON! Why didn't you get study harder in sciences!? Become a doctor, a dentist, a veterinarian! All recession proof occupations! Your future life is tough enough with jobs running sparse. I applaud your stupidity...

Live it up. Life is good right now for you. Enjoy it while you can, because you have 40+ years of daily grind ahead of you. Hit up the bars and meet lots of girls. Make lots of good friends. You will never again have the freedom you have right now.

Carpe diem.

Don't get involved with employers that have poor reputations for treating workers. Working for scum isn't worth it. Even if they will pay you big bucks.

Think ahead. Either play hard and build friendships/have memories that you will always remember, or work hard and be prepared for anything.

My biggest regret is that I wasted too much of my time. Not even wasting it doing anything, just sitting around by myself watching sports, playing games, letting time go by. Missed classes not because there was something I really, really wanted to do instead, but just because I didn't feel like leaving the house/my room that day. Figured as long as I did enough to do OK in my classes and graduated on time, that was good enough. I wish I could have figured out what was important, just anything, and focused on that and achieved it. I basically have nothing except a piece of paper to even tell me that I ever went to college.

Dear young setell,

Stop wasting time, just do what you enjoy! Don't put with crap from people and hope things will turn out for the better because they are just rotten people that will never change. Stay far far away from a place called Kingston and anything associated with it. You'll thank me later.

Oh, make sure you sue that ski resorts ***** for some big bucks vs be nice! Go for the kill! :D

Drop out.... Youll get a few decent jobs, but not really what youre going to school for, so dont waste your time.
Start drinking and smoking weed. Stop being a prude and live life.
Start working out. Running is great but you need to lift some weights. It gets easier and more addictive
Advise on a couple companies to invest in, that would make myself some money, since I know they will flourish.
Explain the meaning of life, which I discovered on December 11th, 2010.
