Wow, that's so cool. NOT. How about EA concentrate on bringing the game to modern standards. There has been so little innovation in this franchise it boggles my mind. I can't understand why gamers keep supporting them every year like Leaf fans. It's a disease. Seriously, compare that to their other games like Fight Night or other sports, these guys simply refuse to bring this game to a new level and are happy with staying with the mid 2000 era graphics and physics wise.
I guess my biggest gripe is the motion capture. The players look like stiffs when they hit each other or the way they move seem like they pivot at one axis and that's it. Realism you say? I think not.

Well...here is the thing about sports games in general. Lets say EA does bring all the bells and whistles, all the features, great realism, awesome motion capture...the whole 9 yards...a perfect 10 sports game(if at all possible)...in this case NHL....it would be great game wouldn't it?
EA, or any other sports game developer for that matter, will want to develop their sports title coinciding with the leagues season. Now if that perfect 10 sports title was created....what improvements will be incorporated for the following year?...and if there are some...ok....now what about the year after that?....so on and so forth.
It will get to a point where...as you said...there will be "little innovation" from one year to the next...if its a perfect 10 game....what will the game need the following year to better the previous game.
Also...how many hockey game titles are out there for current consoles?....from what I know...there are the EA series and the 2k series....if there are more...by all means let me know so I try those out....cause the other hockey competitor to the EA NHL series is ....NHL 2kWHATEVER...and this game sucks....BIG TIME.
Maybe someday Konami might want to dust off their Blades of Steel Hockey game from the NES generation and bring that back....more competition the better.
But for now....I'll stick with the EA series.

What is with the jibberish?.......anyways...I do agree....there a many things that EA can improve in the game but if I want to play a hockey game on my console(xbox360)....what options do I have?....besides the awful 2k series.

i need my hockey fix too. however, there is no other option now. ea is it. it's a fun (most of the times) game.
i only play this online. the offline is filled cheating ai. at least online you stand a chance against other humans except the exploiters.

Agreed...that is all I play...community team play online. Sure there are some bad games every now and then, some exploiters, glitcher goals....but for the most part I've had awesome games. Players who know how to position themselves even when defenders pinch in, people who know how, when and who to pass to, players who can defend properly. Many close games and many of them leading to OT.

What id love to see in NHL12 is a legacy team from each of the teams in the league for a era. And you have the abilkity to play them in a pseudo season againts modern teams (ie 80s oilers vs 2012 teams) Something like that would be cool

I wanna buy it this year cos I skipped out on 11 and 12 because there were tonnes of bugs and not many changes from NHL 10 that I could make out so hopefully they make some changes rather than NHL 10.3. Otherwise, I'm just gonna stick to playing the NHL 2004 modern mod...it's more fun/realistic than the new ones tbh which is kinda sad.
Btw, vote for Subban on the cover for the troll factor.

Does anyone have any info on the 6 potential rating system thing or is it still 3 ratings? And is there still gonna be that inaccurate old overall rating grade?
Hopefully there are actual improvements in this one, I got tired of the last one fairly quickly. I've been playing NHL 2004 on PC with the modern rebuilt mod for years and still enjoy it but the EA ones I've gotten bored of within an year (or weeks in the case of 12).

I was pretty frustrated with the gameplay in the demo, but I'm a season ticket holder for EA, and the actual game is WAY better than the demo. I really really love the gameplay in NHL 13, from what I've seen. It's very lifelike.

I agree.. I did not really care for the demo. However with the tuner pack that they sent out with the Season Ticket I was very happy. My only issue is that the poke check is WAY to effective... it literally works 100% of the time.
Went to the Edmonton launch and picked up these!

Dude! Jealous! and I agree with the stick checking, however that's something you can customize in sliders, which I like.
However, the cross-crease pass being a goal 90% of the time is a thing of the past, which is both good and bad:
1) Defensemen are better at blocking the pass
2) Goalies are like "Spider-Man". Check out this video to see what I'm referring to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMmLyhqXi64&feature=g-user-u

After 3 games of HUT, I can't say I'm liking this game much. Its just not fun for me yet. I loved NHL 09-11, skipped last year, but the slow skating and bad passing makes this game feel like water polo.
I'll definately play it a bunch more, but I think EA might have made a mistake going for a more sim feel, a lot of casual gamers are going to get turned off this game quick. Hardcore fans will endure and enjoy it, I'm sure. Not sure how much playing time this game will get once FIFA comes out.

They have to slow down gameplay. It's the most arcadey sports game out there. Its supposed to be a sim its just that the fast paced gameplay does not translate well to a game. Well it does, its just that EA is not up to the task of making it work. EA's business model is dressing up DLC as a new game and charge 60$ for an upgraded roster.

Exactly. People will defend it as realism and the like, but at the end of the day, it's still a video game. Those that want to dominate will just play it 100 hours a week or turn down the settings, but most people just want a button to have a set reaciton. It should do what it's supposed to do instead of feeling like every time you pass or attempt a one-timer you're pulling the arm on a slot machine. It turns a hockey game into an action RPG.
Imagine if when you played Mario there was a 20% chance every time you jumped that he'd just trip. Or in a FPS that your gun would jam. More real? Perhaps. (You're still pressing coloured buttons by twiddling your thumbs.) It's definitely more frustrating.

I owned NHL 12 and have to say that the passing change was an amazing addition to the series at the time. It allows you to put the pass exactly where you want it to go to avoid a defender, or to pass ahead of player and have them catch up to it.
However, with the addition of the free form skating has made my passing game less effective personally.
I'm used to the passing and will eventually get used to the skating... but getting used to both at the same time will be tough.

This was my initial response... But keep at it. I've gotten better at passing effectively. You just need to spend an extra half second thinking about where you want the pass to go. Also, if you're tearing down the side at full sprint, your pass will be crap... Spend a second or so coasting, and THEN make the pass and it will be a lot more accurate.

online is a kinda crappy now w/ framerate issues (not lag). it's getting better so hopefully ea completely fixes it since none of the prior games had this issue.
i've been playing offline a bit since the online isn't great right now and have unlocked all my equipment slots and probably about 90% of the boosts. didn't too long cause i don't believe in paying ea to unlock them.

There is an area for controler setup in the settings.
You can change that at any point during the game providing that you do it within the 30 second time limit.

I've played about 5-6 games online via GM Connected... It was only laggy for 2 periods of one game, and I think that user was on the west coast. Otherwise, I haven't noticed a problem.
