Hey Folks,
With summer coming up shortly, and spaces being filled up, I was wondering who's planning what for the spring/summer/fall?
Anybody renting a Cottage? Who has one? (or has a friend that has one?). Is it lakeside? I've looked at a few and alot already booked for the prime summer season!
Or Camping? If so, where? What type?
I usually go camping. Algonquin is preferred, but will go to one closer depending on time and availability. Just love the basic outdoors, the late night fires with alot of beer, chatting, cooking sausage, instant noodles, chilli in a can, etc.
But this year, I'm thinking of cottaging it up which I've actually never done. I was wondering what are the things that people tend to do? I'm guessing swimming in the lake, drinking on the patio, bbq. Boating?
If you strongly prefer one or the other, what are the reasons? What are the advantages? Disadvantages?

Camping in Pinery for 9 days. Already booked. If you decide to camp and want to go to a Provincial Park, you better book now as the sites fill up fast and early.

Summer, i'm usually at a cottage at least every other weekend. Friends have them waterfront in Parry Sound & Muskoka, so there is always somewhere to go, and I found great places in Fenelon Falls & in Bobcaygeon that are also waterfront that rent to me on a regular basis.
I don't understand why people go campign when you can rent a cottage for the same money.

Me personally, I love being surrounded by trees all day and night extra relaxing. Being forced to be outside all the time with the outside air is nice too. And the late night fire, just looking at it, shootin the shaat over drinks, then crawling into the tent into that dead outdoor silence. Kind of like feeling like a kid again when going to sleep in the dark was a scary thing.
Just wondering what you enjoy mostly about the cottage experience? I'm contemplating this year which I've never done. I've heard of ppl say stuff about "why go camping?", but never really hear the specific reasons that makes the cottage so much more enjoyable (usually, it relates with people's disdain for not having the comforts. ie. Stove, bed, indoor washroom, etc).

Why is it that we have such a huge country, yet there are so few places that if we want to spend a few days camping we have to reserve it months in advance? Something is wrong and needs to be fixed.

Personally, I prefer cottages to camping. I find every time I go camping, I end up dirty, malnourished, with a sore back.

I suspect because most people want a nice neat campsite with utilities and bathrooms with full shower facilities, not a clearing in the woods.

I enjoy the same things you do about camping (outdoors, beauty, nature, etc) but I do get the luxaries of a stove, microwave, refridgerator, bed to sleep on, etc.
Personally, I think it's more enjoyable that I can sit outside by the fire, but when my drink is empty, go up & get a brand new cold beer from the fridge, and take a dump in the toilet while i'm up there instead of looking for a tree.. LOL

The closest I get to camping is staying at Cabins' on shared grounds. I get a small private cabin with a bed to sleep in, with a kitchen (stove, fridge, table) and everything else is shared (washrooms).

Camping without beer, radio, loud people, or chili in a can.

Here in BC I know TONS of camp spots, drive in and hike in. Their all free and never fill up (unless its may long). They are basically just a clearing in the woods but thats camping. Who needs showers and bathrooms? Youll have those when you get back.

Well, guess I'm poor then LOL. We have a cottage in one of the provincial parks and go camping too at various parks or just canoe tripping from our own place ... Absolutely love getting out of the city... Kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking...

You can camp pretty much anywhere on crown land:

While we may try a cottage one year, camping in a tent is so much fun. Not sure if it is the same price of renting a cottage, but I was under the impression that renting a cottage was usually about 300.00 more than camping for a week.

Obviously just a troll. If you think poor people go to the cottage, just take a drive up to Muskoka this summer. You'll see all the poor people in their 100K SUV's sitting dockside drinking wine at their 2 million dollar cottages. Most nicer than your parents house where you live pupazzo.
