I am going to buy a Doro phone for my parents because its easy and simple for to understand and use from Rogers for $99. From my understanding they wont be using the phone too much except for emergency type calls so from my research the 7 / 11 prepaid plan - $25 for 100 minutes will be most practical buy right now because its good for 365 days. If they need more I can buy another card and top it up.

The Doro phone is locked to Rogers so I need to find somewhere to get it unlocked. My friends tell me to go Pacific Mall or Chinatown Centre and get one of those small vendors to unlock it for $10. This may sound like a stupid question but it won't affect anything if I need or want to go back to a rogers plan later in the future ? I just need to pay and get it unlocked again ?

Am I missing any steps or info ?
Thanks.

Rogers LOCKED phones will WORK on 7/11, No need to unlock that phone unless you're thinking about switching to another carrier other then Rogers / 711 / Petro (Another Prepaid company that's like 711; Which uses the Rogers line also).

As for unlock codes, You MIGHT be able to buy them from eBay and personally unlock them yourself, If not then go to Pacific Mall and see If they can do It..

Possible Unlock code for the DORO phone? (http://www.ebay.com/itm/unlock-code-for-Rogers-LG-GT540-LOOP-DORO-Nokia-6750-/120663408337?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c18197ed1#ht_2531wt_1139)

Also If you don't know how to unlock a phone It's VERY easy, Just watch one or two tutorial videos on YouTube and you should be good.

Ok, thanks. I clearly told the sales rep at Rogers my intentions of going with the 7 / 11 prepaid plan. He told me it was going to cost $50 to get it unlocked to use with 7 / 11 plan so I guess they were trying to scare me and just buy the prepaid card from them instead.

I was also wondering about long distance calls, the sales rep told me that if I were travelling to London, Ontario any call in the local London area will be billed as local but if I call/receive to/from Toronto then its long distance. Is that correct ? If I need to maken an emergency call from London to Toronto I will buy a long distance card and use that in conjuction with the 7 / 11 prepaid card. Who knows what the long distance rates are.

Thanks.
