NIAGARA FALLS — Allegiant Airlines, one of two operating carriers at the Niagara Falls International Airport, is once again expanding its services locally.

Beginning July 1, the low-cost carrier will offer service to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, joining Tampa Bay and Orlando as destinations offered from Niagara Falls.

Not bad, Spirit probably isn't too impressed

Schedule and Price:

The nonstop offerings will run twice a week with service offered Sundays and Thursdays. The planes will leave Florida at 4:10 p.m. and arrive at 7:15 p.m. The outgoing flight will leave at 7:55 p.m. and arrive in Fort Lauderdale at 10:55 p.m. both days.

A special, introductory fare is available at $94.99 one way, but is only available before April 19 for flights taken by Nov. 13.

Allegiant adds IAG-PGD bi-weekly flight

Starting in June, Allegiant will fly to four new northern destinations by creating a new base in Punta Gorda.

Those cities are:

- Peoria, Illinois,

- South Bend, Indiana

- Fort Wayne, Indiana

- Niagara Falls, New York

Flight times aren't the best for a weekend escape, but nice that they have replaced DirectAir's former route.

I have mixed feelings about the flight times.

7:15 pm outbound flight assuming you work the usual 9-5, means you would have to leave work early both to dodge traffic and to make it on time. You would also need to find a hotel for that night in FLL.

I find spirit's 2 am red eye flight time, saves you a night at a hotel and you can leave once traffic has settled down and most people have finished work. More choice is never a bad thing.

The flight home from FLL is substantial better timed on Algient than Spirit IMO.

This should introduce some competition on the route and hopefully better fare prices.

Glad to see IAG airport growing, however their parking costs have now doubled.
