So there is a new reality show - Housewives of Vancouver

Vancouver has a population of about 572,000 (2006 census)
there are about 180,000 Chinese

88,000 Chinese females out of a base of 292,000 females = 30%

Could the show producers not find a single hot rich Chinese woman with a "reality TV" personality?

So you're complaining that this overwhelming embarrassment of a show doesn't reflect equal cultural and ethnic diversity of its location?

I'd be thanking my lucky stars that my "race" wasn't "represented".

Unfortunately in this case, I'm white...

if anything, the Chinese community in Vancouver should be thankful to be NOT included in such disgraceful TV show.

It's like being mad to not make it on Cheaters

What I am saying is that there should have been at least one but preferable two
rich hot women of Chinese descent - to give us more realistic flavour of Vancouver.

What is wrong with the question? Is it not relevant? Is it not curious?

Out of curiosity - what is a "45ED" thread?
Your last contribution was on Oct 18 / 11
in your RFD life you have started 12 threads.

So in other words - could we say you are a complainer rather than starter of conversations?

Back on topic - interesting summary of first episode (http://blogs.canada.com/2012/04/04/five-wtfs-from-last-nights-real-housewives-of-vancouver-premiere/)

Because Chinese are too smart to want to be in such a dumb show?

Joking aside, it's hard to prove discrimination without knowing more internal details on the project but most TV shows are tailored to the majority and under-represent minorities. Even if it is the real Vancouver housewives the producers are marketing it to all of Canada, if they thought putting Chinese housewives in it would get better ratings they would have done it. Whether this is ethically correct or not is very debatable.

Ha ha ha - a woman in her 30s is much better in bed than a woman in her early 20s.

Women hit their sexual peak in their mid 30s.
Women (from my experience) in their 40s can be downright animals!
- one woman would put my unit out of commission for a day or two to recover!

Women over 35 do not play the games young women play.
With a woman over 35 you do not have to worry about using her
because you know she is using you

"Youth" truly is wasted on the young

Haha, way too much info that was not requested.

I guess I will appreciate that when I am older, but younger girls have enough physical advantages that as long as they are relatively adventurous, it is going to be a good time.

+1. Exactly what I was thinking. Who watches these shows anyway? Probably aging image-conscious white women like the ones pictured.

I'm so sick of all these pointless "reality" shows clogging the TV schedules and keeping something worthwhile from being shown. So many channels on cable, yet even RFD chat is usually more interesting. Doesn't that speak volumes. Why do we keep paying for overpriced cable/satellite anyway?

Going off that bio, I'd suspect it's a show put together by mobsters either to show off their "trophy wives" (really not impressed fellas) or to launder some of their ill-gotten loot. If it happens to make some money along the way that's icing. Not that I'd waste one minute watching anyway.

Just out of curiosity, which channel airs this? Could that channel be mob-owned too.

Reiko is half Japanese if that counts lol.

There have been tons of people complaining that the cast is not representative of Vancouver ethnically speaking. The OP's concerns aren't that outlandish. Most people who watch this show are probably white so producers have to cast the women according to what they believe will bring in viewers.

Atlanta housewives are currently the highest rated housewives series and the cast is predominantly black however so are the viewers.

We're not talking Cardassian Cardassians. I just find the STNG Cardassians more interesting than the latest ones. The only member of the current family that was in any way interesting - the father, Robert - is now dead. At least you could see that he was honest enough to realise that Simpson got away with murder when the verdict came in. I'll always remember him for that. The rest of his family are just cashing in on his name.

http://img3.ranker.com/user_node_img/50001/1000001772/C300/u1.jpg

Come to think of it, is everybody associated with Simpson now dead? Every lawyer in that pic likely now is.

Is that Thomas Haden Church in the guard uniform at the back?

Really? Better tell that to the TV networks then. They seem to put a lot more minorities in front of the camera these days than whites, especially during news programs. It makes no difference to me, but it's impossible to miss.

Asians just don't wanna be on television. It's just like when you watch high school/university tv series or movies and how many asians do you actually see in the background, 1 or 2? But in reality, how many asians are enroled in our schools? Like 30 to 40%.

And that's why I've never felt even the slightest inclination to tune in, or even to find out which channels they're on.

Ironically enough, when David Beckham moved to LA there were plans, probably by his wife "Posh" Victoria, so make a "reality" TV series centred around her. Producers wisely limited it to a single documentary. Yet here we have basically the same thing, based around people who actually make Posh seem talented and interesting, and by the sound of it they are multiplying. So many channels of crap on TV 24/7 these days. It's enough to make you feel nostalgic for a time before most of us were born when there were only 3 or 4 channels, but with consistently decent programming. We have high-res video and sound and widescreen images today, but the golden age of TV is obviously long past. What a wasted opportunity today's TV is.

Not necessarily... I may rant, but I am not a lunatic.

I call this genre of shows, "Brain Candy" and "Brain Trash". If I can't sleep, and I don't want to get involved in a book (when I get into reading, I have to finish what I've started so "quality" book reading has to occur during my days off) I find trash magazines like "People", etc., and trash shows like "Real Housewives of ..." are the perfect choice. They completely relax me - I don't need to think, pay attention, and it doesn't make a difference when I nod off during them. In fact, that's the whole purpose of these shows in my life. There - now everyone knows why the "Real Housewives..." franchise is on television - to help me sleep. (And my hubby says not everything is about me... ha!)

What I am saying is that there should have been at least one but preferable two
rich hot women of Chinese descent - to give us more realistic flavour of Vancouver.

I do not speak from experience, but I get the impression that Asian women would never air their dirty laundry in public. I gather that even their informal conversations follow certain protocols that Caucasians simply do not adhere to. Yes, we Caucasians have our own communication/sharing 'rules' (also known as general etiquette), but so many of us are incapable of carrying on a conversation without stepping over some inappropriate line. I think that some Asian women probably were approached, but what audience is going to watch self-censored interactions between polite women? Unfortunately, Caucasians are perfect for this train-wreck of a show. (And who else would sign up to be scrutinized and vilified by Vancouverites? If we use Canuck hockey fans as a typical example, we are a tough crowd to please).

In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.
