Is there a ranking for all the charitable/ non-profit organizations in Ontario?
I usually just donate to whoever knocks on the door or sponsorship but my company just announced it will match employee donation so I figure I should pick one or two non-profit. I am looking for the ones run most efficiently. Please share if anyone knows. Thanks.

There are a few, but can't name them all off the top of my head. But http://www.charitynavigator.org/ is one that may help.
Moneysense has a charity watch like...thing here (http://www.moneysense.ca/2011/09/13/which-charities-use-your-money-most-efficiently/). It's for 2010, so you have to suss out a more recent edition yourself (if there is one).

I think United Way is ranked #1 for % of dollars going straight to the cause.
I think it's because United Way is supported by so many corporate sponsers, their fundraising costs aren't as high as other charities who have to go out on to the streets to ask for donations...

So it's a charity that encourages youth to fund raise for other charities...?

not exactly. it's a non-profit that allows youth to develop skills through organizing various projects which in turn donate to a beneficiary.

The only charity I donate to is my bank account.

The United Way is an umbrella charity that supports many other large and small charities. The smaller ones wouldn't exist without funds from the United Way and the larger ones who can't meet their own revenues (and are in the red year after year) are able to stay afloat because of them.

That's not not surprising.

Yeah I saw that too, but how much money do they have going to them compared to everyone else? Plus, where does the money go anyways?
I mean if 100 Million flows through them, then of course more money is going to go to charity as their operating costs would come first, then the rest would go to charity.
They could of course have the highest operating costs in the world, and at the same time the most money flow too, making the percentage not so important right?
Meanwhile a much more optimal company with less money going to it could effectively have the lowest operating costs, thus a medium percentage when compared to a better one, would potentially be a much better investment, right?
Salvation army.
To be perfectly honest, the only charity organizations I remember seeing when I was broke, was the Salvation Army and the Goodwill. Fairly sure driving into Hamilton that is a Salvation Army building. Then the Goodwill have those stores everywhere with cheap clothes. That that I used it much at all if maybe once or twice. The Salvation Army trucks are the only ones I can think of going around the city.
In any event there are a handful of charity organizations which I have no idea if there is a brand associated with or not, or whether it is a public service. I have no idea.
This might help though...

For example, the Salvation Army, their highest paid CEO is $38,588 and they get a B-, while 64.4% of every dollar goes to charity and the rest to running costs. So maybe they are more hands on?
While the United Way has the highest paid staff members at $300,000-$349,999 and they get an A+, 88.7% of every dollar goes to charity and the rest to running costs, So maybe they better connected?
Hoy Smokes, the Art Galleries are interesting.
http://list.moneysense.ca/rankings/charities/2011/culture/Default.aspx?sp2=1&d1=a&sc1=0
Art Gallery of Ontario - 86.7% with a A+ with a top CEO salary of $981,012.97
Toronto International Film Festival - 77.1% with an A- and a top CEO salary of $249,999
For some reason the National Ballet School Foundation is mixed in with the United Way and the Salvation Army in the same "fundraising" category. I have no idea what the National Ballet does with the money, but it only costs then $0.37 cents to raise 100.00 which is much more efficient, they just don't have the volume of funds going through them I guess?

Only 72.6% actually goes to charity though, so I have no idea.

There are tons of well managed non profits out there. You should narrow down your search to some specific areas of interest, and look for the best ones in those areas.
What areas did you have in mind?

I saw the money sense ranking article when I first googled. The chart didn’t make too much sense (or maybe just too hard to rank non-profit)
Salvation Army is always on our list. Other than that, I am not really particularly interested in any charity but I don’t think I will donate to Art Gallery or film festival…
Funny after I posted on RFD, I read article on house for unwedded moms (Toronto) and their babies. Being a new mom, I know where my $ and diapers should go now :P
I am just going to pick one more.
