Has anybody used an LTE Sim card with an LTE data plan in a non-LTE phone? If so does it work?

I have an Evo 3D, but plan on going LTE soon (outright purchase). I have an LTE SIM and I called Rogers and the rep offered me a free upgrade from my 6GB/$30 plan to the same for LTE. Problem is, if I do that and it doesn't work, I can't get back my HSPA $30/6GB plan.

She asked tech support, and they said an LTE sim card can not work in a non-LTE phone, which I don't believe, but I want to be sure.

Has anyone done this?

thanks.

Should have known.... /facepalm

It only makes sense you would be able to but didn't want to risk losing my data plan. Thanks.

I presume you get no problems doing that?

Does it affect your speeds in any way at all in non-LTE areas? Theoretically it should have no effect, but you never know.

Did you recently have LTE capabilities added to your data plan?

I think I'm in a similar situation as you. I plan to buy a new phone that is LTE capable and I want to add LTE to my current data plan without changing everything around. I'm looking into picking up a Galaxy NOTE LTE and I want those nice speeds!

LTE sims work in all phones that support a SIM card...

It's just that in order to get LTE.. u need a LTE sim and a LTE capable phone..

There shouldn't be any problems with it..

yes they are, i recently upgraded my plan to 6GB LTE from the normal 6GB plan.

they did it free of charge even though I am still using an iphone 4.

(thinking about purchasing an LTE phone in the near future..)

I was recently able to add LTE to my 6GB plan. I dealt with a regular CSR too and it was pretty easy. I told them I had an LTE phone and wanted to try the new network out. Done and done.

Thanks marcsterr for the help!

the answer is yes.
if you want data on the non lte device you may have to call rogers DATA dept and ask them to add all other APN's to your account.
regular csr's may give your a hard time or just not know what you are asking but it does work.
this was one of the first things i tested back when i won the first sgs2 lte in Canada.

I called Rogers to switch my $30 6GB to a LTE plan. The CSR could not do it. He said it was not in his list of plans. Has anyone made this change recently? Thanks.
