Torontonians seem to be blessed with frequent Broadway productions coming north of the border but here's something that will hit many of the rest of us Canadians.

I've already seen "Rock of Ages" in NYC in October 2010 but wouldn't mind seeing it again with a different cast when it comes locally (and what with the movie hitting screens in June 2012). Pretty curious about "Beauty and the Beast" and "Wicked". I just checked all the available cities and it turns out not all locations will have all the shows, nor all the same shows either. I don't know if they plan on adding more to the website in the near future. Ottawa seems to have the most at this time.

Since I'm actually quite new to the world of theater, my question is, has Broadway Across Canada happened before? From what I can find on Google, the answer is yes... so my next question becomes, are there ways to buy tickets as inexpensively as possible? This is RFD after all, and we're in search of deals. I'm not sure the lottery system (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/best-way-spent-1-000-nyc-advise-needed-1162703/#post14563132) exists outside of NYC.

Barring those, I will likely attack the ticket-purchasing process the way I do for regular concerts, which is to sign up for notifications of when they go on sale, and then buy them the minute they are released to the public for the best possible seat selection.

Doing a sample search for "Riverdance" in Toronto on Thursday April 19, the ticket prices range from $44.00 to $97.50. Seems like the range of prices for a typical rock concert. Can't complain, but after seeing "Rock of Ages" on the lottery system in NYC for $30, that kind of set the bar for what's possible in terms of how low a price can be achieved.

Anyone who has seen Broadway Across Canada in the past, I'd love to hear about your experiences and prices.

i saw the lion king last summer when they were in montreal. it was freaking good!

since they are doing a tour throughout canada, the lottery system is not possible. they don't stay long enough to get discount tickets

The Lion King! I am still kicking myself for passing on that. Everyone I know who has seen it has raved about it.

Righty-o, looks like we're all stuck waiting for tickets to be released before we can find out prices and availability. Since I'm a spoiled brat when it comes to performances, here's praying I'll be able to get front row center. :lol:

over here, the tickets are already available for purchase. i'm waiting 'til august to buy tickets for wicked. it'll make for a nice birthday present like the lion king was last year :cheesygri

and front row center is never a good idea. it's better to be somewhere in the middle. you get to see everything

Crap, I hadn't considered that. You're right. It's theater after all, where it's important to see everything without cranking your head, much like going to the cinema... versus a concert where you can actually interact with the performers by being so damn close to the stage.

No wonder I noticed the ticket prices for the first two rows in the orchestra section are substantially less expensive than the rest of the orchestra section.

I've been a subscription holder for Broadway Across Canada in Edmonton for the last few years and for myself it'd been worth it especially if you're looking to watch all the shows in the line-up. There is however no discount on signing up other than you getting the same seats for all the shows and that they're guaranteed if you re-subscribe every year.

As for seating, I sit about 8 rows back or so from the front and center seats which I think is pretty good. You get to see everything and its not really obstructed by anything.
