I can rarely get the search to work... it almost always returns an error (Page Cannot Be Displayed) regardless what time of day I try.
Is it my computer or browser ? Or is it simply something to do with the site ?
EDIT : Apparently I have the same problem making new posts... although even though the Page Cannot Be Displayed comes up, the post/thread still gets made. Bleh.

This happens to me as well I would say 50% of the time.

Don't have a problem with that at all...
That said, the results aren't too usable; if the search results could be redesigned to be more readable/organized, that would be awesome.

I am having that problem.
When I first came to this as n00by, I would always get that error and end up posting the same message twice. Then after a while, I stopped getting it and the search feature worked for me. But now I after reformatted, I'm getting that error, I thought it had to be because of my outdated browser.

I frequently have problems with the search as well, even at times of the day when traffic should be lower. Can anyone shed any light on this?

There are currently two threads about this, but anyways.
I have that problem when viewing new posts, around 5% of the time during the busy periods.
Late at night though, or early morning (6-8am EST), I have no problems or lag.

This is a constant problem for me.
According to my PMs with Derek, he's not interested in doing any serious troubleshooting.
so we can either love it or leave it.

I don't think it's that he's not interested in doing anything, it's probably out of his control. There are probably 101 other things that are on his list to do; although not seeing the PM's I can't speak for Derek. :)
If you refresh the page does seem to return fine; it's more of an annoyance than a serious issue. It sounds more like a problem with their hoster, than with the RFD forums.

Same here. That's why I *try* to avoid using it if at all possible  And even if it isn't down, it would return incorrect search results. I know it's not exactly google or eBay, but often it's more of an annoyance than anything.
Another way to search for a thread is to just use the "subscribed threads" feature under quick links. I usually find what i'm looking for there (as I post on pretty much every thread I visit :cheesygri )

I have problems with the search as well, but what's very interesting, only when I'm using IE. With Firefox I always get results. They are not very accurate, but I get them...

Firefox has saved me hours of combing through these bloody forums...
Best part is that it is a very small program

I also intermittently get the "page cannot be displayed" error with IE only, and not with Firefox. This is when hitting "Submit Reply" when posting, as discussed in a previous thread.

And I found out it's not an ISP problem as I've switched to Bell Sympatico recently (no more Rogers thank god!)
