I estimate they are paying that much to fly me over for the inperson interview. Should I bother going? Part of me wants to go just for the free trip and experience but the other part of me is afraid that I will get embarrassed in the full day interview.

It's a pretty big company. I graduated from a mediocre university with pretty crap grades. Luckily the first round phone interview didn't ask for that lol.

With that attitude I wouldn't bother going.

You must have had reason to believe you were qualified if you applied, and they must have reason to agree if they're flying you out?

If they are paying $600 to fly you in, they must see something in you. But I agree with a previous poster - your lack of confidence in yourself will be quite evident to the interviewer and you will most likely choke.

What sort of 'qualifications' are we talking about here? It has been very common practice for firms to exxagerate the 'qualifications' they are looking for, and then hire people who, on paper, don't meet them.

Also, if they're willing to spend the money, they obviously see something in you.

If your unemployed, go for it with nothing to lose.

If your not, its an expense paid vacation day.

Just go, even if you screw up the interview, you will get a some experience without much expense.

Go. You have to learn from it and nothing to loose.

Is the company out west in Alberta or Saskatchewan? The labour shortage out there is forcing companies to overpay out there. I knew a friend that got a job out there, flew him out there for the interview and even paid for his living expenses afterwards. The University he went to wasn't the best either. As for grades, many companies don't even ask for those, as long as they can verify you graduated.

If you were (reasonably) honest in your application then go for it.

With that attitude no.

But if you have the attitude you CAN DO IT, then sure. How can you decide you aren't qualified????? Are you the hiring manager, LOL?

Go with the mind-set that you have an excellent chance. Grades aren't everything, some people interview EXCELLENTLY, some people have high grades but are idiots in real life.

Maybe they have a couple other jobs not advertised, who knows.

Just go bro...

I would just do it for the experience.

I did it 4 years ago. Flew YYZ-DUS, sleep, 3 days of interview, get hired, fly back DUS-YYZ. Was an exciting week.

I agree. I would at least give this opportunity a chance especially if it is with a large company.

you need to ask yourself a few questions.

Firstly do you have anything better to do with the time? If you didnt go on the expense paid trip, will you instead be spending that time at home sleeping and playing video games? Watching the latest blockbuster? Sitting at starbucks?

Is your heart easily broken? Do you not like getting grilled or the idea of being rejected? If so you need to consider whether you want to go and be exposed to potential heartbreak. But its also good 'training'.

Either way I say you should probably go. Nothing else better to do? Expense paid? Potential to get a job vs being unemployed? Yeah should be a pretty easy decision

OP, you are assuming that they only want superstars and that you are not a superstar.

Believe it or not, sometimes they just need someone that has the brains to do the job.

They want something from you, go show them you got exactly that!

Why look a gift house in the mouth? In this economy, most would be lucky just to land an interview.
Do some research, go prepared and hope for the best. At the very least, you'll get to brush up on interview skills.

In the real world, no one cares about where you studied or your grades. Unless you lied on your resume, you have no reason not to go.
