Why does the PS3 not allow dual PSN logins on the same console?

The X360 has the ability to have up to 4 people logged in with their own gamertags.

This kind of deflates the fun in playing multiplayer games as the other users can't gain trophies or set up their own personalized guns or setups.

Resistance 2 allows you to play local multiplayer with 2 seperate PSN id's.

It is possible, but it appears to be up to the developers. I'm guessing it's a general pain in the ***** to program, so they don't bother.

I don't think its controlled at the game level. If my xbox out of the gate supports it with all games, even on the dashboard, then it's not the game developers control.

It's something to do with the XMB, I can almost guarantee it.

Yeah it's something to do with the XMB, it can't do it.

That's why it's controlled at the game level.

I see what you're saying. So why not just include the ability. I'm sure it could be a simple patch which grants access to 2 logins. If some games do it, why not make it all. Better yet why not enable it from the XMB side. Sony should think of these things.

Pretty niche market for this, i suspect that is why they left it up to the developers to choose if they wanted to put it in rather than doing it themselves.

Niche? Really? So most players play by themselves?

Wouldn't they compete with other companies instead of letting them run over them. Is it because PSN is free vs XBL being paid?

Pretty sure that Little Big Planet allows multiple logins.

Yeah, most people play online now.

There is a reason that most games are dropping split screen. The development costs out weigh the gains.

They do still compete, if a dev wants to put it in they can. Several games have it. It has nothing to do with paying for psn or live.

That's what I'm referencing right now. Two guys (or in my case, my fiance) wanting to play on the same tv, same console, both with their own logins w/ voice options.

I thought that was the norm.

Guess I will be heading back to my 360 for this.

What game? As it has been explained, there are games that you can do this with.

This is just mostly for trophies/achievements, right?

The games are limited...I've seen 6 or 7 vs the library of over 150 games or so.

Not just for trophies. The game in question is MW3 (but this could apply to others). With it being the way it is my unlocked weapons are hers too. She can't create her own custom loadouts. Kinda sucks because we don't play with the same style.

Plus she also can't talk as it's under my username.
