View Full Version : Question for the foodies here: Cooking Subforum?

I am curious if there is any interest here for a recipes/cooking subforum. Technically it could just be done in this food forum but I think if it were to actually have any kind of activity it would create too much noise with all other non recipe threads.

I have no real authority to make this happen, other than to approach Oranr and ask, but I wont even bother doing that much if there is no real interest.

So I guess my question is if there was a recipes / cooking / baking subforum, would you use it?

I got to thinking about it after a couple times where I have wanted to go make something and just ended up googling recipes.

Intriguing...

Some easier way of posting photos would be nice too...

Wrong forum. But yes

Yes, please! I've been meaning to start a seafood recipe thread but still trying to organize the photos. A sub-forum dedicated to sharing recipes would be nice.

I would love to see one. But it would be more interesting if it was dedicated to "home" style cooking.

As opposed to what? (serious question)

Sometimes I am interested in cooking lots of random stuff.. The other day I was interested in donair sauce and wondered if anyone had a particular recipe they liked. Or pizza dough, or just random things like that. There are some really good cooks that frequent these forums and I would love to bug them for ideas :)

Nah. No point. This is the Food & Drink forum. Post it in here.

Its a good idea, and actually what I had in mind years ago when I first suggested to Ryan that we have a food forum... but honestly, I cant see it going too far. There are lots of threads like that started, but end up going no where.

BTW, there is a contest going on right now in this forum, check it out!

Tbh, I think it's unnecessary. If people want to post their own cooking recipes, they can just create a thread and we'll bump it up when we need to.

or how about a restaurant review sub forum? There are a tonne of restaurant reviews in here and I was wondering if it would be useful to have them all in one place? Easier to find them when looking...

People should just start posting this stuff in the existing food forum. Once there are enough topics to reach critical mass, a separate cooking forum can then be created and everything moved over. It's a good idea, but the content just needs to be there first.

I dont think it is necessary.

Restaurant Review subforum makes more sense but even that I don't think is necessary. Leave it as is IMO but that's just my opinion. It's just gonna detract from the amount of posting already going on in here and lead to people posting in the wrong section

While I love cooking, I don't think a subforum is needed. With all due respect, RFD is not the first place I think of when I want recipes and cooking techniques; I tend to go directly to cooking focused sites.

The is a lot of action in food blogs now rather than general sites that have faded such as eGullet or Foodnetwork.
It is hard to find good food blogs and it might be useful to have a thread on an RFD forum on cooking.

I second the idea of easier photo posting, like fb or twitter.

I like the idea of home cooking advice, and also chef or restaurant cooking suggestions.

I like this idea.

I like both the idea of a separate recipes/cooking sub-forum (and not just because duckdown opposes it ), and the idea of a separate restaurant review sub-forum.

Seems to make sense to separate them from general food discussion, there are so many new threads being added everyday, and a lot of older threads bumping around.

In thinking this over, there should be a sub forum for "restaurants". Reviews, recommendations, whatever it may be.

I agree with Jay, I hate "cooking focused sites" and never visit them. Instead, visit cooking subforums/threads of other forums I visit.

I would like to see a restaurant sub forum. Too many people complain about rude/poor service at AYCE sushi buffets and it kind of pollutes the forum. I get it, nobody likes anybody else's favourite. There are also requests/reviews about products and where to buy them, so maybe a sub forum about them or not depending on how many posts you find. I think that a sub forum on cooking would be cool. If you look at some of my BBQ pic posts, I show you the end result, but I also show you how I got there so you can try it yourself.

The other day I cooked grapes and sausages with a balsamic reduction and it was easy and awesome. I would be good to have a spot that makes it easy to find authentic or new recipes. The good thing is due to the originating nationality of people of the forum. I can try a dish that hasn't been "Canadianised" by a restaurant because someone whose family has been cooking it forever can show me the proper way.

I think the Travel Forum needs sub forums more than Food and Drink does.

Theres not that many recipe threads on here anyways, I think it's fine the way it is. I do agree with the restaurant review subforum though.

A cooking sub-forum would be great for those of us who would rather cook than eat out.
