A relative of mine is in her 50s she was laid off as her job closed (in the IT industry). there are no jobs in her specialization (literally no postings). she wants to switch careers but dont know where to go as every "entry level job" requires some years of experience. she can take some college courses paid by the gov and shes trying to make a good choice that will require least amount of time and will land her a job. she is completely self reliant and cant take too much time off work as theres noone else to pay the bills.
any suggestions? (her degree and specialization are irrelevant, she wants to completely leave her field)

A typical scenario that affects people of all ages in the IT sector.

If you come across anything that works in the practical sense, please post it here because there are tons of people in the same position. Old and young. The sector certainly didn't collapse in Canada without leaving a ton of people in very bad situations.
