My 2-year old Cuisinart blender now has a burning smell, leaves black marks on the base, and labours after 45 sec. I'm ticked that a $200 blender lasted only this long for smoothies twice a week, but Cuisinart says too bad, it is past warranty, but I can ship it to Ontario and they will repair it for a cost. No thanks. I picked up a similar blender by Kitchenaid (KSB565OB 5-Speed Blender with Glass Jar) on sale at Sears. The question: should I just start using the new blender, or return it and keep using the Cuisinart until it literally stops working (I don't want to use up the one year warranty prematurely)? It still makes a smoothie ok, but boy it stinks! Anyone have similar issues with either blender? Reviews are positive for most blenders until owners beyond 6 months express their opinions.

I'd be hesitant about using an appliance that has a burning smell and dump it. If you have a credit card that doubles the warranty use that to buy your next one or have a friend or family member who has one buy it for you with their card and give them the cash.

Strange, don't Cuisinarts have a three year warranty?
I have a model similar to the SmartPower Premier (http://www.cayneshousewares.com/product.php?productid=153&cat=5&page=1) and it's been fine for years. It's built like a tank.

I wouldn't use it if it stinks. Toss it and if you can afford to, buy a Blendtec. You'll be happy you did :D

I have heard good things about the Ninja blender at CT, if you're not ready for for Vitamix or Blendtec.

they seem to get very good reviews, those ninjas.
if it goes on one of those massive ct sales, i'll probably pick it up.

I bought a Ninja and then returned it as I wasn't happy with what it was able to do. Also, I didn't want to slice my arm open cleaning that blade column. I got a Vitamix instead and use it almost every day. It has been worth every penny so far.

For your use, why not get the $29 Black & Decker blender (http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/8/KitchenBath/2/Appliances/Blenders/PRDOVR~0431942P/Black+%26+Decker+ProBlend+450+W+10-Speed+Blender.jsp?locale=en) at Crappy Tire?
There's no reason it shouldn't last for years, but even if you had to buy a new one every four months, it'd still be cheaper than a $200 Cuisinart that dies after two years.

No there is no reason it shouldn't last, or so I thought. I went the B&D route with the toaster oven for a while. Each lasted a year, then lost its heat. Bought a Breville instead and it is awesome. I would have bought the Breville blender but it is so tall it wouldn't fit under the cupboards at the back of the counter. I'll give the Kitchenaid a whirl. With the sale and Sears points it was only $115.
