I have 2. The first one is Wendy's. I just don't see anything special about it and don't get the hype. Fries are average and the Burgers are nothing special IMO, and everyone makes a big deal about them.
2nd is Burger King. Burgers are over rated and the sides aren't good at all.

Scores is pretty bad (in Ottawa too)
But L'Academie? It's not a franchise, lol, and it's not bad! Tasting the food of future chefs, and cheap Moules Frites for lunch, it's one of my fave places to go in MTL.

Tim Horton's. Actually, I don't hate it at all and do enjoy the coffee but I just don't get the love for the joint. Like why there's always a huge lineup at all waking hours of the day and why people are willing to wait. If I'm in a food court and there's a Tims with a giant lineup and a Second Cup without one, I'll always go to the Second Cup. I don't know - maybe I'm just not a coffee fanatic.

*fist bump* YESSS!! It seems like everyone else has such a boner for SK and would even wait in long lines for it, when there's better Thai food to be had just about anywhere. SK sucks, and they were never actually that great. Their old sit-down place, Linda, used to be okay but there's still much better options than SK. If I wanted to wait in line for Thai food it'd be at Koh San Road or Sukhothai or Mengrai.

Tucker's Marketplace, except from those rare times when Im in the mood for a medley of cold pasta-based servings (never).
Richtree Market/Marche- not a fan at all.

Tim Hortons....I don't hate it, it's okay but I don't get why it's so popular. It's just coffee and avg lattes. The prices are cheap but I hate when people say...let's go to Tim Hortons for lunch. They don't have actual food like a shawarma place would or some local takeout place.
And burger places like Hero burger....they aren't bad but I don't see a notable difference from other places for their prices to be $3-5 more for the same meal.

In no particular order.
1. Tim Hortons - the reason why you need a double double is to eliminate the crappy coffee taste
2. Starbucks/Second cup - Only beats out Tim Hortons, but that's kind of like winning the special olympics (no disrespect to the special olympics)
3. Boston Pizza -Food sucks, I don't get it
4. Swiss Chalet - You seriously want me to pay how much for the small pigeon you are serving?
5. Mandarin - I might as well eat at the zoo inside the animal cages with the animals. At least they will be polite while getting the food
6. Richtree/Marche - Let me get this straight. I got to four stations to fill my plate. Have to line up four times. Come back to the table and eat my cold food by myself because my friends aren't done yet. Then I tip you?

I love poutine but I find Smoke's poutinerie insanely overrated. My beloved poutine must have 2 things: Dark, rich gravy and melted cheesecurds (I'm aware that the 'traditional' way is to not have them melted). My experience at Smoke's: Sweet, chicken based gravy and almost none of my cheesecurds were melted. I'm still willing to give them another try but it's almost never on my what-to-eat option list.

Spring Rolls: Overpriced asian food made for gwai lo. The food isn't terrible. I just don't like this restaurant defiling the essence of asian food.
Mandarin: I hate it for similar reasons as Spring Rolls. It feels like over half the food at Mandarin isn't even Chinese. It's Asian food made for gwai lo. And again, the price tag is really high for asian food. But I admit they have an outstanding desert section.
Swiss Chalet: Chicken never goes wrong. I like the taste. But I realized that there's nothing that special about grilled chicken. I can go to a grocery store and buy a grilled chicken for half the price and it tastes almost the same. I might be missing the salad/fries and the swiss chalet sauce but apparently you can buy swiss chalet sauce in markets.
Casey/The Keg/Most western restaurants: Ok this is a bit personal. I'm really cheap (which is why I'm on RFD). Unless it's a date, I go to restaurants for the food, not for the atmosphere. For this reason, I don't like most of the western restaurant chains because the food prices are significantly above cost. I can't believe that if you ask for extra sauce, they will charge you $2.50. I also can't stand that some of them charge you $3.50 for regular coke in a glass. I also don't like their menus. I never understood how a burger is considered a "cuisine". There's no "cooking" involved. You just grill the patty and put it in the buns and add toppings. I don't understand how most western menus are so bland and full of food that I can make myself at home. Chicken fingers? Salad that I can buy from grocery stores? Fish and chips? Chicken wings? Pizza? If I just want the food, I might as well go to a grocery store and buy those frozen packages and oven cook them myself. To top it off, the servers seem to expect 20% tips nowadays.
The only exception to the above is Boston Pizza. I love their Tuesday pasta special. Good price and it's not something I can easily make myself.

Can't speak for anyone else, but to me it's garbage low grade meat that is "cheat" cooked by shaving the chicken off when still bleeding raw then cooking it into gristly little chunks on a flat top then slathered in a bunch of sauce to disguise how crappy the chicken itself is.. it's one of my least favorite places yet so many people sheepishly think it's the best shawarma around.. I just don't get it!
They also cut so many corners on things like rice (disgusting microwaved flavorless white rice with no flavor or veggies for texture at all), frozen french fries, "caesar salad" that is merely the shredded lettuce from the shawarma wrap doused in the shawarma garlic sauce, improperly cooked falafels that fall apart.. I could go on and on...
but obviously to each their own -- burrito boyz and osmow's are packed all the time so obviously other people disagree with me

So the staff was rude to you too? I didn't want to mention it because I thought it might have been the two locations I was at. Last time I was there I walked out. The waiter acted like I stole his bike when we were kids. Thirty minutes for a drink...
The time before that I watched the staff step over and ignore food on the carpeted floor. It was an entire piece of toast, you couldn't miss it.

They just seem miserable - i don't think it's anything personal either - they seem to hate their job. Last time I was there, we waited 20 minutes to get served - that was just to get a beer - and it wasn't even busy! I definitely don't expect to be waited on hand and foot, but don't make me feel like you're doing me a favour by taking my order.
I was always amazed by Jack Astors in that respect - the food is nothing to write home about but always feel like they're very attentive (sometimes even over attentive) - drink in hand within 5 minutes.

I'm one of those who thinks Osmow's has the best shawarmas (at least from what i have tried). I think the sauce they use is excellent, and the prices are very competitive (i believe 7ish for a huge one)
In fact, i drive 30 mins sometimes just to go there. Im curious where within the Toronto area would i find something that you consider better and competitive as well.

I hope OP wins the contest! It'll be funny for him to get a gift card from the owners of one of the restaurants repeatedly trashed in this thread!
BTW, I don't like Swiss Chalet either... Never been back since the baked potato incident. Ordered a baked potato and noticed some black marks on one side... I cut it open and the potato is all black inside and rock hard. You'd think that whoever took this out of the microwave and cut into it would notice the crunching sound. However, equally as incompetent was the waitress. She picked up the potato with her hands from my plate and took it to the back! She at least brought the new potato out on a plate, but I had already long since lost my appetite.

Tim Hortons is overrated. Kind of default place if you're driving in no where land and just need a coffee or a snack. I was in the US last year, and amazed at how much better their donut selection and quality were. Coffee goes much better with it there too. Those executives must be smoking some dope if they think they can compete against that in the US.
Swiss Chalet, awesome when hungover when you just need something greasy and salty (this requires alot of sauce and gravy). Other than that, can't see why people would eat this as a normal part of their diet.
All those typical Montanas, Jack Astors, are way overrated and expensive.. but can't say I hate it if you're there for a reason such as meeting with friends once in awhile. And as someone mentioned, I won't order anything there bc of crappy value, just snack maybe. Regarding Bostons Pizza, they should just rename it Boston Pasta as some of their Pasta dishes are actually pretty good (overloaded with sauce though), especially the Tuesday Pasta Special.
Wendy's.. I actually give their fries higher marks. But other than that, not sure how this place is still around. Who remembers those "Eat Great Even Late?" Campaign to brag about closing their drive thru at 1am when BK opened to 4am, and shortly after, McDonald's till 4am.
Harveys, I went to one recently and was severely dissappointed that they had the burger pre-cooked. What happened to the days when they grillsed it fresh?
NY Fries.. haven't been there in awhile, but remember thinking it was much overrated.
I think its actually a good thing for all our weights and health that there are generally subpar chains here. And even the same one we have as the US, there's is much better with more selection, and overall value.

Not sure what one that is, but right now we've been going to Chef's Door (brand new only been open like 10 days, on Pearl street where Taj Wrap used to be) and Isis and prefer both of these by far to Osmow's and Pita Nutsy. Will pick Pita Nutsy over Osmow's.
Isis closes really early it seems, like 8PM, which is a bummer
Chef's Door I really like the food but it's very expensive for the plates which is a bit irritating, so definitely just get the Wrap for 6 bucks if you're on a budget. The plates skyrocket in price all the way up to 13.99 and the portions aren't that large.. My only complaint really with Chef's Door is only that they need to reconsider their pricing. Bring the plates down to 10 bucks because it's not a huge amount of food

You've got to go to this one on Claremont and not the others if you want a good sandwich.

California Sandwiches.
I heard many people rave about their veal parm. Maybe by the time I actually tried it for myself, they couldn't possibly live up to the hype, but this was one of the worst meals I've ever had based on the cost...sauce was crap, bread was a slushy mess. 100% agree
I was expecting a lot based on reviews, but was left wanting
It wouldn't say it was terrible, but nothing special and too expensive

Tim's.
Shiddy coffee, overpriced mediocre food, small portions.

Swiss Chalet. The food is overcooked, dry and tasteless.
And the service is terrible.

tim hortons, starbucks, swiss chalet, and mandarin are on the top of my list closely followed by tucker's marketplace
i'm not a fan of the western chains like jack astors, caseys, kelseys, but if there's nothing better in the area, and we're starving........they'll do

For real.. I don't get why ppl like to dine at SC. I'd go Costco and get a whole chicken + pick up an order of fries and then if you really like their SC chicken dipping sauce then you can head to the supermarket and buy em.

I like the California Sandwiches on Queensway in Etobicoke. They put like 3 cutlets in 1 sandwich and the hot peppers have a good kick to them.
I always get the chicken cutlet with mushrooms and hot peppers.
Can't comment on the veal... Never tried it.

MILESTONES Specifically the one in Oakville off Burloak, next to the movie theatre. Went there twice, both times was invited for a group dinner. Service at the front was terrible, walked in and waited about 10-15 minutes before anyone came to the front hostess desk. Food? Garbage. Ordered a steak and steamed vegetables. BOTH time, steak was burnt to a crisp (asked for medium rare) and I returned it both times and left without eating. Each time, they apologized and the last time I asked for the cook to come out (which he would not) and told the waitress politely, to ask him if they would eat that sh*t. She said no.
I'll never go back, and advice everyone else to STAY AWAY!

Take out once a week = easier than cooking for one (especially when the wife's away for a few weeks). The last thing I want or need is a whole BBQ chicken.

To compare Nick's at 10th and Thomas or Pita and Grill to Osmow's is absurd. Nick's has the most overcooked and unfresh meat known to man kind. Everything there is low quality. The only thing edible at Nick's is the fattouche. Pita and Grill, is just blah. There is literally no flavor in anything. The sharwarma is 95% lettuce, and massively overpriced to boot. The one near Hurontario and Dundas has the most disgusting kebabs I've ever eaten.
Say what you want about Osmow's (I don't eat there anymore), but if you go in there, ask for the meat to be well done and for a couple of fries to be thrown in, its definitely the best shawarma in the GTA.
Personally, I don't see the big deal over Pho. I mean, its nice once in a while, but its just undercooked meat and noodles in a bowl.

Definitely not.
Something tells me you have not eaten much shawarma outside of Osmow's junk food

I have, I've eaten Sharwarma all over the Middle East as well.
