View Full Version : Perfect Nutrition Perfect Whey REVIEW

So, I grabbed a couple tubs of Perfect Nutrition Perfect Whey, flavours Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Pineapple Mango.
Reasons for choosing Perfect Whey:
(1) cost. It's about $5-10 less than an equivalent tub of ON Natural Whey (at 5lbs)
(2) the whey itself. It is sourced from New Zealand (as opposed to the US which supplies most) meaning that it is grass-fed (pesticide-free), and hormone free.
(3) sweetened with stevia, not aspartame, sucralose or Ace-K
(4) THEY ARE CANADIAN
Thanks to Tijuana for the lead on this protein. I didn't know they existed and actually bought through Healthy Planet (www.healthyplanetcanada.com).
Review: BTW, these were ALL mixed with water only. No milk.
Pineapple/Mango
Taste: 9/10
Mixing: 10/10
This stuff tastes just as the name implies, with a heavier pineapple flavour than mango. Very sweet, although not so much that it can't be diluted with more liquid. This is in relation to ON Natural whey which is not sweet at all. And I don't consume many carbs anyway so it may just be me over-reacting to the stevia. You be the judge.
Mixes very well (only had it once) and no clumps. I bought this one for some of my frozen berry and spinach smoothies, which should taste a lot better than the ON strawberry which has next to no sweetness.
Chocolate Peanut Butter
Taste: 9/10
Mixing: 10/10
Again, tastes just like peanut butter and chocolate, so yes, it's awesome. Again, very sweet but I'll just add more water next time. No drama.
Mixes great, no clumps, and as with the pineapple/mango, I use a shaker cup with the ball inside. This one is a keeper for sure. And seeing as these taste this good, I'm looking forward to the chocolate and vanilla flavours they have.
Anyway, thought I would share that with anyone interested, and looking for a new brand to try.

Thanks for the review. Looks good on paper. The protein to everything ratio is very high, which is a good indication. I might give this a shot as well. Did you get it shipped or pick it up locally? If shipped, how much was it to ship?

Really? I thought it was pretty good considering. Granted, I did usually buy ON, so by those standards it's cheap but I'd be hard pressed to find one cheaper, and of this quality. New Zealand whey is not cheap.

Shipping is free after $49 so one tub will qualify for it. Or they have a bunch of locations around the GTA for pickup at their stores. I've been to their stores in the past and they are stocked with everything you see online, which is nice because it always sux when you get there and no protein :(

I have to be honest, I'm not sure that it is. I mean, I don't think anyone knows for "sure." But that being said, it is an artificial chemical being introduced into the body and as such, I don't want it in mine - if I can avoid it. Not to mention, stevia tastes the same so why not use it?

Thanks for your reply. I'm gonna compare it to Kaizen, IsoFlex, and Iso Sensation 93. I'll have to compare size of scoop, amount of protein per scoop, scoops per container and cost.
ETA: Came up with (couldn't remember what Kaizen costs as Costco so left it out):
Iso Sensation 93 Iso Flex Perfect Nutrition Perfect Whey
Size scoop (g) 33 30 35
scoops/container 28 30 26
g of P/scoop 30 27 28
cost/2lb $43 $44 $30
price/scoop 1.53 1.46 1.15
price/gram 0.051 0.054 0.04
They only give servings per pail for the 2lb container.

Artificial sweeteners for the most part aren't bad for you. It more has to do with how much your are consuming in your diet overall. They have done studies and testing and there really isn't anything to worry about. If you eat a healthy well balanced diet, ie home made, then your exposure to artificial sweeteners is extremely limited. But when you start eating out, lot's of pre-packaged foods, candy, snacks etc etc, then maybe there is some cause for concern.

Should be the same price.

While I don't think any conclusive evidence has been found yet in human studies I would say the jury is still out on whether they may or may not be bad.
It has been shown that they in no way lead to weight lose. In fact some studies show they can actually cause weight gain by increasing the desire for sweet food.

If you check here, for example, on the right side it says that these are online prices only:

If you're asking about this protein specifically, I can tell you that the location at Dixie and Dundas has the same prices in store as online. And I have bought other stuff their with the same prices, like Carlson's Cod Liver Oil for example. Same price. Not sure why they wouldn't give you the prices.
BTW, it seems that if you bring your gym membership with you, you get 5% off. Not sure if there is a minimum order. But I think it's BS either way because I train at home and don't qualify :( Maybe I should print out my own "membership" card and see what they say? LOL

exactly. even IF they aren't bad for you (which i doubt but i've got no proof) they still keep people hooked on an level of sweetness which is unnatural. i ate a carrot the other day that tasted like candy because i don't consume anything with a lot of sugar or artificial sweeteners. i know it sounds crazy but it's true.

On a semi-related note I just noticed this morning that Kaizen from Costco is sourced from Europe which would more than likely be grass-fed. Only in North America are we dumb enough to feed cows food they would not eat in the wild. NA is also the place with an obesity epidemic...coincidence?

Really? From Europe? Hmmmm, got me thinking now.... If I ever need another protein to try, Kaizen seems like a wise choice too. Thanks bro :D

Maybe someone should lock her up in a barn and feed her nothing but grass for a few months, see how that goes. Put corn and grass in front of a cow and 100 times out of 100 the cow will head straight for the grass. You can't fool/exploit mother nature for very long...and thinking you can is arrogant and narcissistic.

If this bothers you, maybe you could start a yoga or step-class thread and take your discussion there? Or not bother entering this discussion altogether? See, when I see a thread that doesn't interest me like about 90% of them on this forum, I don't read them nor respond to them if I do.

I know it may seem to you that people are attacking her, etc. but if you knew her history of bad advice, and refusal to admit when she was wrong, you would understand our frustration. It's infuriating when we start a post and she derails it with her nonsense, and you would be correct in saying that we all have the right to post here, but her posts stink of intentionally trying to incite an argument. And that sends the thread into another direction all together.
Yes, we can add her to the ignore list, but to what end?
Moving on, let's focus on the nonsense presented here regarding the feeding of corn (grain) to cattle....

I know it may seem to you that people are attacking her,,
And, it ' seems ' that way to the mods as well....which explains why ' attacking ' posts are regularly deleted by mods on this forum. ;)
etc but if you knew her history of bad advice,
Worst case ......my advice is no worse than the advice you - or anyone else for that matter - has provided on this forum.
The trouble is, my advice often differs from and or is at odds with yours. Which is fine - it's simply a difference of opinion.
And the simple reality of a forum is, people are going to disagree with you and they are going to disagree with me. Again - that's fine. Because, that's the very nature of a forum - a place to express differences of opinion.:)
and refusal to admit when she was wrong,
Complete & utter nonsense IMO...when I think I'm wrong, I'll admit it.
In fact, I've done so many many times on the forum over the years.
After all......nobody's perfect.
( though .....some are ' less perfect ' than others ;) )
you would understand our frustration. It's infuriating when we start a post and she derails it with her nonsense,
I don't derail threads with any ' nonsense ' at all.
I participate in threads in the exact same way that you do.
and you would be correct in saying that we all have the right to post here,
Correct....that's why it's called a forum.
And so long as members' posts are done while respecting and adhering to the rules of the site, then any member can post whatever they want.
but her posts stink of intentionally trying to incite an argument.
Again, more nonsense IMO..my posts don't stink of intentionally trying to incite an argument any more than your posts stink of intentionally trying to incite an argument or that posts from a handful of other ' regular contributors ' to this forum stink of intentionally trying to incite an argument.

So you still think a 1000 calorie weight gainer will put on unnecessary body fat and 1000 calories from cranberry juice won't make you put on unnecessary body fat?

UPDATE
This protein tastes horribly sweet. After having finished both tubs, I will not be buying it again, and would not recommend you do either. Way too sweet, even with 1 cup of water per scoop, and I usually have 2 scoops at once (which is fun before bed...).
I've just ordered some Kaizen naturals which essentially uses the same ingredients (NZ whey, stevia, etc) and will give an update on that stuff.
5 lbs for $54.99. It was on sale at well.ca for $49 a few weeks ago but no longer....
