I'm looking at these apartments.
So far the only ones that do not look too ghetto based on pictures compare to others and the price is affordable for a young male in his mid 20s.
Has anyone seen this in person? What about the neighbourhood?

Why not go visit, man? That's how I found my place. I hated the one I saw in the ad, but loved the neighborhood, so I just walked up and down the street calling every number I saw on a rental sign. A place might look good on paper, but you should always check it out yourself.

Really busy during the week, so I figured ask here first before I go out of my way to see something that may not even be worth a visit. :P

I live in the area of Victoria Park and Eglinton and I can tell you the following
At the Victoria Park and Eglinton intersection there's a No frills, and a mall called Eglinton Square that has a metro amongst other stores...Right next to the mall there's a "beer store"
The 24 bus runs to Victoria Park station along victoria park or you can take the 34 to Kennedy station or eglinton station....
If you walk East on Victoria park from the Victoria Park and eglinton intersection there's a wal-mart/starbucks/pizza pizza/wendys/tim hortons/boston pizza/future shop/best buy and amongst other stores...
There's a lot of apartment buildings in that area....South on Victoria park there's a elementary school -
Um - I'm typing this quick so if there's anything you need to know specifically just let me know - I live in a house in the general area - I've lived in the area my whole life - actually in the same house my whole life - I've never moved.
I should add - it's a pretty chill area -

Hey, thanks for the tip. I really appreciate it.
What can you tell me about the neighbourhood though? Is it safe? Do you see a lot of junkies? People that look like they can never be trusted?
Is the area clean or does it look like... you know?....
Thanks again in advance. :)

I'd say it's a safe neighbourhood - I've lived in the neighbourhood my whole life and I've never had a problem. The area you're looking at has a lot of apartment buildings and I'm not familiar with the buildings at all or the people that live in them. I'd say the area is clean but then everyone has different standards....
If I were you I'd do a google street view of the intersection to get a general idea of what the area looks like. The area you're looking at used to be the border or close to the border of East York and Scarborough so it's not "scarborough" as what you might think it is....I'd say anywhere East of Eglinton and Warden would need a really close look...
I should also add that Victoria Park and Eglinton is a busy intersection and the traffic can be brutal at rush hour at times.
I forgot to add - south on victoria park after the victoria park and eglinton intersection there's a tim hortons/subway/pizza hut -
and there's a bus there that takes you to coxwell station -the 70

Thanks a lot again, buddy! :)
Helped me a lot.

The area is not bad. I mean its not that good but not that bad like Jane and Finch.
And people looks are not exactly what they are. There are so many good people who not so good looks.
I dont know about the TTC service there but I don't think its bad. The roads are busy during office times.
If you remember VIcP 20 years before they were in terrible shape. But I think they have redone the roads in last 3-4 years.
Working class neighborhood like Jane and Finch. Many apt building all around.

No problem - as I've said - I've lived in the area my whole life and I love it here - sometimes I wish it was closer to downtown Toronto - although it's not that far - like a 10-20 min drive, and sometimes I wish there were more shopping options - like a big mall (yorkdale, eaton centre etc) but it's a chill area and I don't want it to be falsely represented.

It is a good area - people have false interpretations of what the area is like - I'll agree that it's a working class neighborhood...
The TTC service to me is just fine - the 24 bus is a very popular bus as well as the 34...their usually very busy and can be very full at rush hour times. especially the 34 because it takes you all the way to Yonge and Eglinton and passes Leaside high school.
The 70 bus takes you to coxwell station and it passes a high school (east york collegiate) and a hospital (toronto east general)

OP, just remember you can't judge a book by its cover... or in this case an apt by the look outside. My oldest just rented a place that looks just "ok" from the outside. It's a small commercial building with this one apt upstairs. Well the apt is almost 1800sq/feet 2 bedrooms. Both bedrooms are huge, bigger than the master in most houses! Has a 3 season sunroom as well that is really large and a full size washer and dryer in it's own laundry room in the apt. It's quite deceiving from the outside to say the least...

Holy! 1800 sqft? That's too good. The new condos selling for more than $250,000 are much much smaller than this.

I agree with you on that. My impressions not living there was posted. I did say it not that bad.

Many apartments buildings on that road. So this is common in such area. So your first visual impression(on Google)or experience is not good.
On further observation it doesn't look that bad. At least somebody is not shot or some other big issue.
Otherwise you would see few more cars.

I wouldn't worry too much about the neighborhood. I live in a pretty affluent neighborhood where the houses have those large pillars like in Fresh Prince of Belair and some years ago some moron blew up his own house to collect on insurance.
Not sure what he used but he overdid it and the whole roof blew off the house and the houses nearby were no longer stable. Anyways the guy got charged and went to jail I think but that is way more dangerous and equivalent to maybe 10 shootings so your area looks pretty safe with only 1 shooting in 2 years
