Since India and Pakistan are enemies, and if they had a war, who do you think would win? Pakistan is developing nuclear weapons, and India recently made a successful missile launch. Keeping politics out of this, (so this thread doesn't get locked) which side has the stronger army, navy, and air force? Do you think their war could lead to WW3 by drawing in China and the USA?

lol, india has had nuclear weapons since before 99% of this forum was born (i.e. in the 70's) and pakistan has had nukes since 1998 i believe. you make it sound like they're both nuclear wannabes, like Iran/North Korea.

Asymmetry of moderation

Interesting that cheapmeister would want a discussion of a Hindu vs Muslim war

Maybe India and Pakistan should attack China

There will be a Third World War in about 20 years
China will be the opposing force to Western forces

india

also, the tension between iran and israel/US is what will lead to a ww3 if anything.. which india will be caught in the middle of.. seeing as how it has strong historic and cultural ties to iran and strong business/military ties with israel/US

sounds good, both sides can outsource their technical support to them.

Population, industrial capacity, geography, and equipment all favour India. It'd be like China vs Thailand, or the US vs Canada. There really is no point to this thread but to rile people up.

I would not count on numerical superiority to predict who wins
The winner in this conflict will be the side that simply wants it more

Pakistan is a 'young' nation, with a median age of about 20 and 104 million people under 30 in 2010.
India is a bit older with the median age of 25.1 in the 2010 census.

you mad theyre taking the bottom end jobs? or you mad they do a better job than you? or you mad they dont beg for benefits and extremely high pay for average jobs?
or you mad (north) america is facing a "brain-drain" where all the brightest and most talented are moving (back) to india/china?..

This is true. That's why the US fears being reconquered by the British to this day.

Why not attack and invade Canada?

Canada= lots of available, fertile land plus oil, water, trees, fresh air, diamonds, women, etc

Logistically impossible

emigrate troops to Canada and set them up as sleepers waiting for the call to arms!
Brampton goes down first.

But we have moderators who can neutralize invaders with the simple press of a ban button.

How old are you, 12...who would win as if it's some great game, tsk tsk.

Neither would win. A catastrophe that big in one nation would affect the other since they're right next to each other. It would be like something bad happening in Sweden with the effects felt in Finland as well since they're right beside each other. Radioactive effects from one country would be felt in the border next to it.

There's actually a very good article on it written by an Indian writer/activist who points out how stupid the whole thing is. It's called The End of Imagination. I'm not sure if this is the right one where she points out the mistake but she makes some good points nonetheless:

http://www.ratical.org/ratville/nukes/endOfImagine.html

It should also be noted that their ecosystems are connected. Even destroying one ecosystem would be bad enough in India where they struggle to provide water or enough to live on to farmers with low yields in rural areas (and unlike most other countries, India is still very rural so it's a good chunk of the population).

Lets put it this way, The US wants to ensure they both are at the same level! Basically they want them to be busy with each other and that they don't have to deal with them separately.

Probably a smart strategy. I use the same approach when I'm playing Civ 4. The best way to win is to get your strongest rivals to go to war with each other. Ideally you want them to have the same level of tech so that neither side can get the upper hand and they just spend decades, even centuries killing each other without either of them actually achieving victory. That way they waste their productivity on building munitions and drafting citizens to go and die while I am moving 1000, 2000, 3000 steps ahead technologically, economically and culturally.

Make it a threesome since the men like to hold hands and throw in RAGU! He'll probably nuke them all with jars of curry-flavoured ragu sauce ...

Both countries have already fought 3 conventional wars over Kashmir territory. Both are now spending heavily in weapons development and developing nuclear warheads and missiles to wipe off each other.

India has a bigger military as it is a big country. And it is in better economical shape than Pakistan, and gets more support from US and other nations. There is investment in India, lots of tourism, lots of money flowing in.

Pakistan is ripe with corruption on all levels of govt, no investment at all, no tourism at all, its basically being kept floating through IMF, World Bank, and ofcourse the US itself. But it has a 600,000 man military, the calibre of which is pretty highly regarded in the world.
Recently in the Cambrian Patrol Exercise in 2010, Pakistan won the gold medal, leaving behind the US and India and others.

I think both are stockpiling nuclear weapons, but nobody is going to use them, they both know they will both perish if they use it.
Although I think Pakistan's missile program is a lot more advanced technically compared to India's.

Russia tends to support India, whereas China supports Pakistan. That way the region is 'balanced'.

The common man is but poor in both countries. Too much money spent on the militaries.

If both could adopt a nafta-like agreement, it would be good business for them both.
