Shell to give away free gas
BY: THE GRID
One way to fight back against Toronto’s supposed War on Cars: load up the cars with free ammo.
On Thursday (May 3), Shell will be offering customers up to $100 of free gas for exactly 90 minutes at a “secret” location to be revealed 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning on the company’s Facebook page. The reason for this rare, sudden bout of oil-company generosity? Torontonians need some “well-deserved relief,” says a press release—and, of course, there’s the matter of promoting Shell’s new Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines.

Why not just lower their gas prices by 1-2cents across the GTA for the whole day instead???

This is just going to create chaos - I'll be looking to see where it is just to AVOID the whole mess.

Maybe I should drive my car from Edmonton to fill it up for free in Toronto. That's about as intelligent an idea as this one.

*sorry this is a repost*

Heard it on CHUM FM 104.5

for 90 minutes at 6:30am on May 3rd at a random Shell station in Toronto, they will be giving free gas. Gas station will be announced at 6:30am at CHUM FM and on the Shell Facebook page.

Maybe they should try having fair prices all the time instead?

It's a pretty good promo considering most "free gas" giveaways done by local GTA radio stations are capped at 50L. At market prices, this secret Shell location will give you the opportunity to fill up to 75L (assuming gas is around $1.34/L). If they want to help us with relief, bring gas back down to 1996 levels :)

By the sounds of it, it will be just ONE gas station? WFT kind of a promotion is that?

lol there's probably what, a hundred or so Shell stations in the GTA? Screw that.

It's probably worth listening to where that station is to avoid the inevitable traffic jam that will ensue with EVERYONE lining up to get this.

90 minutes gets it up to 8:00am, so there's plenty of people on the road by then...it's going to be chaos at that station.

prepare to lose your gas tank (if it isn't empty already) for an attempt to fill up a new gas tank!.

Here we go, 500 people wasting hours of their time polluting in line all to save 50 bucks in gas. Even RFD users aren't that cheap and certainly aren't that dumb.

I will especially enjoy the stories of people with disabled cars in line because they tried to go get gas running on fumes to fit an extra dollar worth of gas in the tank.

Question, whenever gas stations do this they tend to need police to provide security and keep some kind of order... I hope that public money isn't paying for that. Does anybody know?

The amount of gas being wasted to try to get this deal is going to fill Shell's pockets with cash when everyone has to fill up their used gas..... Just my 2 cents..... smart on Shell's part though

I love to listen to classical pieces like Mozart and Tchaikovsky when I'm in the Hummer, the tire noise and engine noise make such a good remix!!

Public funds are rarely used for police 'extra duty' officers - they're usually hired by whomever wants/needs the security/police presence. I would certainly hope that Shell would have already pre-hired a few of them to help with traffic (read: fist fights) that morning.

what a stupid idea.

How stupid is this promo? In Brampton people are being uncivilized and fight at gas station just when it drops 3 cents. Someone might get beaten or shot.:(

Apparently some guy wanted to skip the line and tried bud in by entering through the exit. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt, was yapping on a cellphone, and he was blocking traffic. He got a ticket by one of the officers on duty there.

i waited ~50-55mins for ~46litres of v-power, worth $67

got the free car wash voucher too

my tank takes 65 but i usually fill up when i have just less than a quarter tank left so this was perfect

i saw plenty of ppl try to skip the line by u-turning/3point but was forced to u-turn/3point back to the end near warden ave...i was lucky that i stumbled upon the forming line via warden instead of victoria park where you have to drive all the way down and u-turn

the guy who came in the wrong way via victoria park was not wearing a seatbelt, on the phone and blocking traffic so the cop ran to him and gave him a few tickets, what a goof....this "free" event cost him money now.

It makes me SO happy that people like that get ticketed. I hope it was a fat ticket.
