Looking to get a pressure washer to go along with Foam Cannon HP that I will be purchasing.

I have heard that Karcher breaks down easily as they are 100% plastic.

I have found a Michelin brand one http://www.rona.ca/shop/~pressure-washer-electric-pressure-washer-michelin-441923_!pressure-washer_shop with better build metal/plastic and better GPM than the Karcher in same price range.

Would like advice from pressure washer owners that have been using it for their car wash..
Any other alternatives?

Thanks

It's rigid's 3000psi with a subaru engine.

I've owned a couple Karcher pressure washers and have had good luck with them. The one I have now has a honda gas motor on it and it's very dependable.

When choosing one don't only look at the psi, also look at the GPM rate. I personally don't like the electric ones since they don't seem to hold up if you use them for more then 1/2 hr at a time on the ones lower then 1800 psi.

Pressure washers normally go on sale this time of year so keep your eye's on the flyers.

The one I have is rated for 3600 psi at 4.2 gpm with a 13 hp Honda variable speed motor so yes it's too strong for paint and it will cut through wood on the highest level.

Yea i researched the GPM part, as the michelin one provides higher gpm at 1900 than karchers and its on deal 279 -> $229. just wondering if people have experience with it, its on deal at Rona. definitely looking around flyers, been itching to get one since weather is geting better(except for recent rain lol)

I'm also looking to purchase a pressure washer.. been eyeing this one from Costco

http://www.costco.ca/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=10301609&search=power+washer&Mo=2&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-CA&Nr=P_CatalogName:BCCA&Sp=S&N=0&whse=BCCA&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BCCA&Ne=4000000&D=power+washer&Ntt=power+washer&No=2&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1

It's a Karcher 3000 psi, honda engine, gas powered, $399 in stores. Are these likely to go on sale? I've been watching for the past 2 months with no luck. Anyone have one that can comment? It's for the car and around the house.

Damn.... $300 for a gas pressure washer

....that was selling for $989 a couple of days ago. And it's one hell of a PW with a Subaru engine and a Cat triplex pump.

I've had that Karcher 3000 psi gas Honda-engine washer from Costco for about 4 years, it's good. I've seen similar gas Karchers at WalMart, and some "liquidator" type places have slightly used Karcher gas washers. My friends have older gas Karchers which seem to have some minor pump maintenance issues (water won't turn on when hose trigger is pressed).

Disconnect the hose from pump and wand when in storage because that will save the hose O-rings and they use a rare size that is hard to find at parts stores.

I don't like enjoy using a gas pressure washer because they are noisy and heavy, and you need to change the oil and use gas preserver when in storage. Mine has tires that need to be inflated. Also you need to put special antifreeze in the pump for the winter if stored in a cold place like an unheated garage, while electric units can be stored indoors. I probably could have gotten by with a less powerful electric washer and I'd use it more often because of the convenience, although big jobs would take a little longer.

Another point for electric: there seem to be more accessories (such as for siding and deck cleaning) widely available for electric Karchers, the accessory specs often say they are only for electric washers, gas washers probably have too much pressure.

That HD deal a few posts above looks worthwhile. If I was now looking for a gas washer I'd also consider a "BE" Honda unit from Home Depot who also carry BE accessories. BE is made in Abbotsford BC so parts/service should be easy, unlike Karcher which is from Germany.

Thanks for the tips. We've gone through 3 or 4 cheapo electric pressure washers already, so we want something a little more powerful and won't break down.

In my experiance electric ones are too weak and break easily, as they are generally cheaper. I have never been able to find a good electric one.

What ever you do buy it from Costco, if you have any problems you can take it back. I have taken 2 washers back and just get replacements. If you get one at Crappy tire you will be stuck dealing with the manufacturer as their return policy sucks.

Update: So, right after I posted, my brother calls me and tells me to bring out some cash to HD. He found one in the paint aisle.. after being told zero stock over the phone and in person on Saturday.

Thanks LOOSEWHEEL!!! Heheh :)

Cool. If you read the other thread, you would see that inventory reports were inaccurate and your best bet was to hunt it down on your own. Even HD personnel reported none in stock yet they still had them.
