This is the first recipe I made from scratch on my new Artisan Stand Mixer:
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/chewy-chocolate-chip-oatmeal-cookies/detail.aspx

I modified the recipe slightly as reviews state for 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 3/4 cups of flour.

By the time I got to mixing everything it definitely did mix well and did start to lose a lot of the liquid and become a more thick batter. However at this point the tilt-head mixer started wobbling back and fourth as it moved the mixture around.

It was pretty significant wobbling and worried me. This wasn't really a big batch and certainly not that much flour.

Does anyone have the Artisan mixer? Does your tilt-head wobble like that? I'm probably going to try exchanging it...

You used the side lever that locks the tilt head in place? I often forget or just don't bother.

Yep! It was locked. Triple checked

Was it the whole mixer wobbling a bit?

My artisan sometimes does that when mixing heavier doughs. I just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get close to the edge of the counter. I also have really sturdy 1970's model KitchenAid and it does it too.

Nope just the top portion. It's as if the hinge/joint was just much too weak or not secure enough...

I guess I'm glad I went for the Pro... made bread yesterday, barely even made a sound, and no movement at all.

But really, I would consider taking it back... if you have the same problem again then you will have your answer.

Yea... and with that recent Lowe's deal, the Pro was basically the same price/cheaper than my Artisan :(

If there was a way I could return/buy the Pro instead I'd probably seriously consider it. But I bought mine in Feb! Plenty of people on the internet say the Artisan serves them very well... but I had trouble the first time I made something half-difficult... :(

And that is the reason I buy at Costco.

But I too struggled with a decision between the two... if my husband was not pushing for the Pro I'd of gone with the Artisan

I've got the very early model tilt head.
That will happen when the bolt is loose from normal use, the dough or whatever in the bowl is too much or too stiff.
This a design flaw but then again tilt head models are for very light mixing. I added a washer but i still get a slight movement.
I'm looking to get the best pro model available anyone know which one it might be?
