Hi,
I see a lot of deals about video card, and I would like to build a PC for starcraft 2, diablo 3 and other games. I currently own a 4 years old laptop, and can't play any recent games.
Where to start ? Like everyone here, I'm looking for "deals" , but don't know anything in compters (reliability, performance, compatibility).
Can someone suggest me a good setup ? My budget is 800$ excluding monitor.
Thanks

Intel Core i5-3570K $259
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H $160 / Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H $115
HD 6850 $140
1TB 7200 RPM $100
BitFenix Merc Alpha $45
500 Watt $65 (find best for it's price)
8GB $45
DVD $20
$834 / $789 before taxes, you can cut down on the CPU if you don't plan on Overclocking or even go with 2500k and price match basically everything and get the lowest price possible.

Get a cheaper CPU and then add a SSD. May need an OS.

All your prices come from what website ?
And about the CPU, what does the K means , unlocked ? I don't plan overclocking.

Downgrade the CPU and Motherboard and spend the saved money on a SSD as another user recommended.

Wouldn't be better a 6770 ?
According to this :

It's 73$ after MIR and get better results.
About RAM, there are so many companies for 45$, am I better with G Skills ? Patriot ? Corsair ?

hd6850 is recommanded if you want to play the latest game at a playable setting. why not check on www.dell.ca, they got desktop on sales once in a while, not that bad and best part is it comes with an legit win7 OS.

There is a 6870 for $140 after MIR at ncix so perhaps that might be a good choice.

you'll get better results with i5 2500k with slight overclock to 4.0-4.2ghz without much effort.

This site can help: http://pcpartpicker.com/
You can compare prices from different sites. Just make sure you select Canada in the top-right corner.

My suggested build:
CPU: Intel i5 - 3570k - $227.79 (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=70541&promoid=1069) - Pricematched with DirectCanada (http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=12200BD0768&vpn=BX80637I53570K&manufacture=INTEL)
Mobo: MSI Z77A-G43 - $110 - $20mir (http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=69230&vpn=Z77A-G43&manufacture=MSI/MicroStar&promoid=1069) - Pricematched with CanadaComputers (http://canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_722&item_id=047788)
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X 8GB DDR3 1600 - $47 (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=57953&promoid=1069)
HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB - $115 (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=50895&promoid=1069)
Video Card: XFX HD 6870 Dual Fan Edition - $180 -$30mir (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=58512&vpn=HD687AZDFC&manufacture=XFX)
PSU: Corsair Builder Series CMPSU-500CXV2 500W - $50 (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=60329&promoid=1069)
Case: Antec 300 v2 - $60 (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=67326&promoid=1069)
DVD Drive: ASUS DRW-24B1ST - $18 (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=49597&promoid=1069)
Total before tax and mir: $807.72
The other option is to go with the Intel i3 2120 and used the saved money towards a better video card. Will give you better gaming performance in the short term, but the i5 will be beneficial later on when games are better developed for quad cores. Also the i5 is much faster in all tasks non-gaming.

Thanks,
That's pretty much all the parts I considered.
But maybe I should order everthing from NCIX, because ordering from 5 different sites = no assembly and 5 times shipping.

Any thoughts about using a 120 GB SSD instead of a HDD (or in addition to a smaller HDD)?

Yes, thats why you should pricematch everything at NCIX.
Also, the 600W version of that PSU is now $55 so i would suggest that instead: http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=60330&vpn=CMPSU-600CXV2&manufacture=Corsair&promoid=1114
