I have been insured with TD MM for the last two years. Two things changed this year:
1. Renewal amount is higher than what I was paying. (About $10 per month more)
2. I am no longer a member of the group that I got the rate for (Above rate is still the group rate). I am not sure if I can get in trouble later for getting the group rate.
The Personal offers group insurance at my workplace and I am getting a rate thats slightly lower than what I was paying earlier. I have no clue about how good or bad they are though. Any reviews or feedback?

i have alternated between Personal and Belair over the past few years, depending on who has lower rates. I found personal tends to have lower rates on odler cars, whilst Belair has lower rates on newer cars. I have never had a claim with Personal, but I found their customer service reasonable. Kust make sure they don't try force installation of some kind of theft tracking/recovery system on your car.

I have the Meloche Monex insurance for both house/car and they do offer me better rates being a P. Eng myself ... I also found out that all my P. Eng friends have Meloche as their provider ... we seem to all have much better rate than any other provider!

the preffered rates for groups is just a gimick IMO.

As I mentioned, I am no longer part of the organization that helped me get a group rate and the group rate I am getting now is better than TD MM.

Not really. If you do a back to back quote, the difference is significant (100s of dollars less).

In my case, i have both TD MM and The Personel on group insurance. Quotation i received from both was around same value, not something to worth switching on and off.
I had car insurance with TD and when i joined group insurance i got 25% reduction. And it was only 1 month after i started with them, so no other possible cause fro that 25% less.

Not a good experience with The Personal.
I had group insurance with The Personal. It was the best rate I could get at the time.
I had to make a claim for an accident and although they were nice and polite, they made no efforts to side with me and ended up consider me partially at fault. It turned out to be as bad as fully at fault and they almost tripled my rate at renewal. Left them and never looked back. May be I should have known better at the time and dispute their ruling but they went out of their way to make sound like it was no big deal.

I've been with both of these companies. I was with TD MM for 3 years until switching to ThePersonal because of a slightly cheaper rate with my group discount.
I switched around 3 months ago, and unfortunately got into an accident about a month ago.
I was turning left, and a dump truck ran a red light and t-boned me. I thought I was out of luck since I was turning left and will be at least 50/50 at fault. However, a witness gave a statement saying that the dump truck ran the red light.
The claims process took about a week, but the adjustor found me not-at-fault and that my rates would not be affected.
Overall, I had a pleasant experience with ThePersonal especially for a experience involving claims. They got me a Discount car rental right at the collision reporting centre since my car was likely a write-off, and I kept the rental for 2 weeks.
I guess every company has its good/bad apples...i think it really depends on the adjustor that you get

It might seem obvious but if you are with Meloche through a professional organization, make sure to also get a university alumni group rate if you have one to make sure you are getting the best of both group rates.

+1
I have actually found that my university alumni group rate is the best group rate I can get out of all the group rates I am eligible for (employer, professional associations/designations, etc.)
