We are travelling this weekend to the US and want to know if there is any restrictions in bringing in some frut in the car to eat on our journey. We were thinking of Pineapple, apple, orange and watermelon - all cut up of course.

Thanks in advance.

US Customs and Border Protection are HUUUGGGEEEE on preventing the importation of citrus products. You can try your lucky (I've heard they just throw it in the garbage) or you can bring a different kind of snack.

You might want to check out the US Customs site for the rules: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/82/~/travelers-bringing-food-into-the-u.s.-for-personal-use

I've been extra careful lately since I use Nexus and it's a zero tolerance policy. Think they are concerned about fruits with seeds but best to check. Many many years back I remember driving across for a camping trip and had a few fruits for the trip. The orange we had had a "product of USA" on it so we were allowed to take it but I thinking it may depend on the customs agent.

No. Don't bring any fruit south.
However, on the way back north, you can bring fruit back with the exemption of stone fruit. Also each province has its own restrictions (e.g., BC not allowed to bring back apples).

I had my bananas and apples apphrehended in the US customs area in the Vancouver airport. We weren't even allowed to eat them there, even though it was still in Canada. I tried to explain they were for my daughter who has Celiac disease and has a hard time finding food she can eat in airports. The whole thing seemed very silly; I hope they at least gave the food to the food bank.

Don't bother. They will take them away if they find them. They even took away our almonds because they were in a ziplock back and not in marked packaging.

Why don't you just buy those fruits after crossing the border. Is it really worth the hassle bringing them over when they are available over there as well.

My personal experience has been quite different then what has been reported here.

I usually travel to Buffalo area for day trip or weekend trips 4/5 times a year with wife and kids. I usually have food and fruit in the car for the first meal when we cross the border. I always tell them what I have, in detail, and (cross my fingers) never had any issues (so far).
