View Full Version : AC and Expedia for TD no longer friends

I am curious if anyone else is encountering this issue. Expedia.ca, and by extension Expedia for TD, no longer books Air Canada Tango flights, just Tango Plus and higher. This means that I can only book my July family trip to Toronto from Edmonton on WestJet (unless I wish to pay an extra $200 per person for Tango Plus). I am no fan of AC, but for the times and price, AC is the better option.

Of course I can book through the AC website, but then I lose my 9 pts per dollar on my TD Visa First Class by not booking through Expedia for TD. I am rather frustrated; there is not much point to a rewards card if you can't collect points!

I am wondering what card I should switch to, or if anyone has found a way to work around this problem.

have you tried calling Expedia for TD and speaking with an agent/ maybe they can work something out for you?

I believe he would receive fewer reward points booking through an agent on the phone as compared to booking through a website so I don't think it's an option he would want to explore since he's trying to maximize his points.

OP: I found the same thing the other month and didn't realize the cause until I read through your post. I was booking flights and AC was double the price of Westjet (and double the web price), so I just assumed things were wonky and that and booked Wesjet. But now I realize it was probably only booking into Tango Plus, which is why it was so much higher.

Numerous calls to various levels of TD and TD Expedia revealed that this is now their policy, although no explanation was offered. In fact, those I spoke to shared my concern, but could do nothing about it.

Yes, I get 3 points per dollar if I book through AC, but I get 9 points if I book through TD Expedia online (6 pts if I use a phone agent, plus a fee). Another point, TD Expedia also doesn't allow you to input any promo codes. For ex, I had a 20% off goodwill coupon for a late flight from Westjet, and I could not use it if I booked TD Expedia--another instance where I did not receive the additional pts. All in all, I would say that in the 1 1/2 yrs that I have had the TD Visa, I have used TD Expedia for less than 50% of my travel bookings. Not good value.

An update to this thread. No, you cannot book Tango flights through Expedia.ca of Expedia.ca for TD. However, if you are on the Contact Us page for TDRewards.com, you are given 2 choices: phone Expedia for TD to book a flight, etc., or phone TD Travel Rewards Center https://www.tdrewards.com/contacttravel

If you phone the former a TD Expedia Rep will tell you they cannot book Tango, but if you phone the latter you CAN book Tango flights at 6 pts per dollar. There is no indication of this on the website, or anywhere for that matter, that there is a difference between Expedia for TD and the Travel Rewards Center. However, after much time on the phone, a manager admitted to the disconnect, apologized, and gave me $100 worth of points.

great tip thank you! 6 points per dollar isn't bad!
