Hey Everyone,
My car has been damaged and I've been told that its not worth the cost of fixing it. It's at a garage right now and they have contacted a car disposal company for me. I was told that I have to hand over the signed ownership and also a letter authorizing the removal of the car. I have never done this before so i was wondering if there is a format for this letter? I'm afraid that I may miss some important information and thought I could ask everyone here.
Thanks!! :D

Just find a bill of sale template put the amount to be $0.00 and that you have signed ownership over to XYZ company for the disposal of {Make Model} with VIN {VIN#} on {DATE}. You want proof that you have signed over the ownership of the vehicle to someone else and what happens with the vehicle after that point is not your problem. 3 signatures should be on there yours, person picking it up and a witness.
Reason for being this anal is because if they take that VIN and use it on another vehicle and that vehicle is used in a crime it may come back to you.

I just did this yesterday. For a 2000 cavalier I was paid $250 for scrap and I handed over the signed ownership. The company "Heartlake Auto" in Brampton gave me a receipt stating the vehicle was being "scrapped" and properly disassembled. There was no letter from me. Maybe the shop needs you letter so that they can arrange the removal on your behalf.

Scrapped my mother-in-law's '92 Corolla yesterday and was paid $170 + $50credit for pull'n'take from Standard Auto Wreckers. Pick-up & Towing is free. Could have gotten more if I called other scrap yards but I just wanted the thing out of my garage. Same as above poster, they gave me a receipt and you give them the signed ownership portion.
Sounds like the shop wants to profit from your scrap if they ain't giving you anything for the scrap.

Is there any outstanding money owed for towing or storage at the shop? I could remove it for you
