You will find out really quickly how many women do not find you attractive

I've been to these before and I can recommended bringing a bottle of water... your throat is going to be sore after all the talking you have to do, and you have to talk loud because you're generally sitting near the other couples.

Conversions almost always involve 1) what's your job, 2) what's your education, 3) what hobbies you have. Then just go from there.

Since we're on the topic of speed dating, and this being a bargain hunting forum, how much are the events in your city?

The typical one in mine is $80, and at the age of 28, I am BARELY scraping into the minimum age limits on a small minority of their events. I was hoping for more hip, younger crowds, in the ballpark of 25-35 years, not the 30-45 which seems to dominate the events listings page.

I think that's ludicrous. I attended a one-off event for charity a number of years ago and I don't remember it being any more than about $30. And it was with people in their twenties too. I had a blast. Would go again if guaranteed my age group.

speed dating and/or online dating never really attract the young adult crowd. if that's what you are looking, you are better off going to bars, clubs and those happy hours. i'm 28 too and it sucks

Wouldn't this be more efficient? 1) Do you find me attractive? 2) Do you have a disease? 3) My place or yours? Then just go from there.

You should join Meetup and search for a speed dating group that caters to 25-35 year olds. If one doesn't exist, create one. You would be surprised at how many people are probably looking for the same thing.

Speed Dating? Shouldn't it be called "Desperation"?

i went to one a few years ago with a friend.

my advice do not go in with high expectations... i.e. that you are going to meet a super model/girl or guy of your dreams or something. Just have fun getting to meet new people. I met a few people of the same sex and we still keep in touch. so even though i didn't make a love connection at least i met a few cool people.

good luck.. hopefully you hit it off with someone!

OMG, I can't believe it costs money to go speed dating! What a complete rip off!!!!! Save yourself some money and start chatting up every person you think is cute on the street! Either way, you learn to get over your fear of rejection by the time you talk to the 100th person!

Just have fun. Go with no expectations that way you will not be disappointed. Its hard to meet people once you start working full time so you have to try new things.

Realistically do you guys think there are ANY attractive women at these things? If there is a pretty one, then there's something else wrong with her I'd bet.

the older you are the more women to men ratio increases. 30s is probably half half or close, go up 5-10 years and theres events with 20-30 women and 5-10 guys tops. I still have a few years before those age groups but im at work 10 hours daily and sometimes weekends, the only women you meet are co workers and sometimes the office cleaning lady. lol

Yes, definitely. That is why the age is on the higher side. Need to get a lot older to be this desperate.

me and some friends were gonna goto one of these for kicks. Im down. Im 27 and never had a GF. While im not really bothered at all that im single, I guess that would place me in the category as "desperate" lol. I think the great thing about speed dating is that you cant be friend zoned and no need to worry if shes interested or not. If shes not, she wont choose you as somebody to give her contact info to I would think. Sucks when im trying to hit on women in a bar and they just think I'm a really friendly guy. No, I want in your pants like all the other guys... essh.

I think it would be interesting for no other reason than to get a serious gauge of how attractive you are to the opposite sex. I'd probably do it just for that fact alone.

You know, the essence of wanting A and doing everything you can to get A is, in other areas of society, considered great "work ethic", "fire in your belly", and "passion". I don't get why it has such a negative connotation for dating.

From what I've seen on tv, LOL, is that people go by their attraction to the other person. So, if they think you're hot, it doesn't really matter what answers u give them. If you're ugly to them, they don't care how great you are on paper.

I can't believe I never thought of this before, but your statement just hit me like a ton of bricks. It makes perfect sense why the vast majority of my local events cater towards crowds in their mid-thirties and older, with very few of them allowing 25-30 year olds.

Even though I do well for myself, maybe I can snap me up a nice cougar or sugar mama at one of these things. $80 to register for the event in return for a lifetime of cushy financial security? Suddenly the ludicrous entrance fee doesn't seem so harsh.

There was one stunner at my charity event a few years ago. I thought we hit it off, but nope, no exchange of contact info happened. The rest were all average to above-average. Nobody was really below average so my experience was good... although when I found out a few of them smoked, suddenly I wasn't so interested any more. I'm a health nut, so smoking and drugs are instant disqualifiers no matter how physically attractive a girl is.

Advice?

Say "YES" to everyone and when you get all your matches, start filtering them out when you email them.

whats cumpare ?

Cumpare doesn't mean anything in Italian...compare on the other hand is a euphemism for friend, mate, partner in crime, etc...Not quite family but more than an acquaintance...It's not really appropriate to say 'compagno' or 'amico' in some cases, so some say compare. It's misspelled cumpare probably because phonetically it sounds that way in some dialects: koom-pah-reh. In proper italian it should sound more like: com-pah-reh. The word is fairly common with Italian Canadians, but not with Italians. Then again, I haven't been to every region of Italy, so I can't say this is always the case.

By RFD Meet/Meat, I assumed it was all going to be males anyways  so basically RFD'ers can fill in all the male speed dating spots and troll the random ladies :p

Though, everyone's answers will be the same. $100k salary after graduation, looking for a Korean/Russian/Mennonite LG, what else am I missin'?

Really it's like instead of approaching 2 people at a night at the club, you chat with 30. It's a numbers game.

Really?

That's weird. Which event was it?

Some crappy ones don't even have single women (I have heard)... they just plant the coordinator's hot married friends or other chicks that have no intention of meeting someone there (other friends that are in a relationship, gay, etc)... Speed dating doesn't work especially when you have a bunch of weasels running the event.

I know one in my area lets you go again if you get no matches.

Also if you're an asian guy and all the girls are white... well... :|

I went to three of these events (or maybe it was four). I remember the first event had a fairly good looking spanish girl but she was dumb as a doorknob and was incapable of carrying any sort of conversation, other than replying yes or no or basic two word answers to anything you say.

The last event I went to, which was around two years later, had the exact same girl. I don't think she remembered me but I sure remembered her. I am quite sure she was planted by the co-ordinators to fill in spots.

Also I know some of the girls are there because only because their friend invited them to go for free. The girls get 2 for 1 entry specials, so the second girl really has no intention of matching with anyone.

yeah i sat on the wrong side of the table. my first date was with another girl and i was too shy to say anything.

nah, at the end of the event there was time to mingle/socialize... mostly girls stuck around so talked to some of them.

You are a Asian Male in Edmonton going to speed dating which is majority white girls. You do not see anything here. Alberta is the most conservative province in Canada so I am not surprised by the result. If this was in Toronto it might have turned out differently
