Inexpensive Commuter Bicycle

Since I'm tired of getting my road/racing bicycle dirty from commuting, I'm looking for an inexpensive men's bike that I can use to commute. Ideally the bicycle would cost less than $400 and could be purchased in Toronto. It can be a mountain bike, a hybrid, etc. I currently weigh 155 lb and am about 5' 11" if it helps.

Similar height and weight.... I got a Giant Escape 2 last year and it works great...~400 bucks
