I built a fence last summer. It's weathered for the last year and I want to stain it before it turns all weathered and grey.

I stained my fence at the old house which took a combined 14 hours with a brush and roller. This fence is larger and all semi-private so there are problems getting into the small spots.

What is the best way to stain a PT fence?

What's the best product to use?

What's the quickest way to do it?

I hear that spraying is quicker, but has more waste. After staining a fence and knowing how long it takes I am willing to sacrifice product to save some time.

As an update.

I used Behr Semi-Transparent stain, natural cedar colour.

I did about 1/4 of it with a bucket of stain and a paint brush. It was torture.

I then bought a $30 sprayer.

The sprayer did a ***** job staining the fence, but it did a great job of putting stain on the fence boards. I was then able to back brush with a paint brush to spread the stain evenly on the boards. The sprayer saved me a lot of time, I was say somewhere between 5-8 hours. It was well worth the $30

@OP: Uh. You may want to hold off once again. I would have done it at the beginning of summer. You are suppose to do it when it is nice and warm so the wood is dry (after pressure washing or wood wash) so the product penetrates nice and deep.

The temperatures (depending on where you are) are dropping to between 0 and 3 degrees. With those temperatures moisture accumulates overnight and the product will not cure properly.
