Hi guys,

I was about to buy a spring/shock kit on ebay. I noticed their shipping method is by UPS, so I sent them a message asking if it was possible by USPS. They replied saying it would be 200$ using that method when UPS is only 60$ but I have no idea how much they'll charge at my door. Any advice guys?

Thanks

USPS (Canada Post) will charge you $8 plus taxes and duty.
Taxes are your provincial taxes (GST/HST/PST?) and Duty I'm too lazy to look up.

UPS will charge you $52 plus taxes/duty/a bucket of fees.

Sadly... for the $140 difference it'd probably be cheaper to go UPS this time since I don't think the bucket of extra fees will make up for the $130 difference.

In tha amount of times I've had items shipped to my home from the states I've found:

USPS:--90% of the time there were no additional charges added when the item arrived at my door.
UPS:---15% of the time there were no additional charges added whent the item arrived at my door.

It's hit and miss, but I did find with UPS that the higher the value the more the chances that there were additional charges when it arrived at my door.

Ugh, I would have to go with UPS, I guess, suck lol. Too bad buying the same set local is way more expensive.

Thanks guys

If you're in Montreal, just have it shipped stateside. Right across the border, there's Champlain, NY; I have my stuff sent to Freeport Forwarding. You just use your name with their address and it'll be there for you to pick up. Their prices have recently changed: 3 dollars per package under two pounds, 5 if over. Then you just bring it through customs yourself at which you'll pay regular Canadian taxes (unless the border guard let's you through unscathed). You may or may not pay duty, depending on where it was manufactured. It's only an hours drive from Montreal (it's easy to get to) and there's a Price Chopper there too so you can stock up on a few items.

As of June 1st, the amount of goods you bring bring back duty free is increasing to $200 if you stay longer than 24 hours. You could check out Plattsburgh or Burlington and make a little getaway out of it.

Hope this helps, good luck!

If you do hace it delivered to the States and go over to pick it up and declare it when you come back:

There is no duty if the item is manufactured in the states.
There is no brokerage fees as you are acting as your own broker.
In most cases you only pay the taxes when you declare the item.

If you spend the weekend, (48 hrs)then you don't pay anything under $800.00 after June 1st per person. Think of it as a weekend away and bring a friend so they can also claim $800.00.

Good luck with the purchase as well as your mod.

Isn't the $52 the "bucket of fees"? Its not $52 + a bucket of fees.

+ a 2.7% bond fee for advancing the money. But yeah, the 52 is most of that "bucket of fees"

I'm not even sure what applies to a single item shipment any more.
I know there's the Bond fee unless you pay them ahead of time, but I could swear there's a few other items that get tacked on.
