why bother putting on a new one, if the old one still works? if it doesn't work, just leave it out in the curb.

kijiji and craigslist have "free" sections.
If it works someone will take it....if broken maybe not.

Yes, then Yao will feel sad. The guy who take it might take it and install it in someone's house and make money off of him. We wouldn't want that would we?
Just like the clothes donation turf wars that's been going on in Toronto. Makes me so mad. It's not for charity, then I will bring it to goodwill or something :).

Take the motor and see if you can build a go kart with it.

I will take it off your hands but you have to return a favor. The favor is to install it in my garage.

why not keep it in case your new ones ever break?

This is how hoarding begins. My dad has old a$$ car parts he thinks we can 'use' in case something breaks in the current (and completely different model) car.
If it works sell it for cheap...if it doesn't work chuck it to the curb on garbage day.
IIRC garage openers have 5? 10? year warranties? It wouldn't make sense to install the old one if the new one breaks. Heck why buy another one if the current one is working? Does it have bluetooth?:cheesygri
