Sooo I'm going to buy an iPhone 4S from this guy online. He sounds pretty reliable, an assistant professor at my University (never met him before). He's offering to sell me his iPhone 4S for $465CDN, he's only used it for ~a month, is selling it because he prefer's the white over the black colour.
So my question is. Do you think it's a scam or should I go for it? It seems pretty cheap.. but I don't know if it's reliable or not. I need some second opinions. Thanks.
And if it makes any difference.. I'm from Victoria, BC.

That's the going price in the GTA. Nothing indicating a scam but in any case be careful.

To make sure it's a 4S and not a 4, hold the home button to activate Siri.

An assistant processor should not scam you, anyway, the price is normal, unless it is a factory unlocked one, which usually goes for more.

Ask him for the original Apple box it came in which has the serial number and the IMEI code. If he doesn't have it I'd be careful. If the phone is stolen he wouldn't have the box. IMO.

Don't bet on it. It's on the Internet, I could say I'm a Dr. How would you know.

get the serial number and check on the apple site to make sure everything is good before you hand him the cash

Another easy way to distinguish an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4S is the metal band around the iPhone. On the iPhone 4, there are 3 slits - two on the bottom left and right side of the band, and one beside the headphone jack. On the iPhone 4S, there are 4 slits - two on the bottom left and right side of the band, and two on the top left and right side of the band.
In addition to the advice already offered, bring a flashlight or LED keychain and flash both into the headphone jack and the dock connector. Make sure you see the white sticker inside both areas (if there's too much dirt, you may have to clean it out with an air compressor), and don't accept it if there's even a slight tint of pink/red. The pink/red sticker means that some liquid has come into contact with the phone, and won't be qualified for any warranty services.
