Anybody purchase, or in the process of purchasing the new Lexus GS 350?
Looking at some of the posts on Lexusclub, it seems various regions in the us are able to get the vehicle at or below invoice while other regions are paying near MSRP.
Lexus of Calgary seemed to insinuate that they would be looking for a deal at MSRP as the vehicles a selling well. So my question comes down to, have any Canadians bought this car in Canada and been able to drive a deal below MSRP?

It's always the case when a hot generation model comes out, demand > supply that dealer can command for MSRP selling tactic. If you can't wait to get it, then that's the price.
I do have to say the interior is done nicely, however, I don't understand they are using an 'old' engine (3.5 litre used since MY 2007) for such a new car. In my opinion, Lexus should have come out with a brand new engine for it.

When the 4th generation LS came out for model year 2007, it had the first 8 speed auto. For 2012, the GS is still stuck with a 6 speed auto that can be found in lowly cars like the Hyundai Accent and the Kia Rio.

Why are you directly comparing them? They're not even in the same league. More speeds are not always better.

Considering the last generation GS460 had an 8-speed automatic... a 6-speed is a bit of a step backwards, don't you think?

In terms of specification, of course. Not arguing that point.
But... the 3.5L V6 in the standard GS350 makes about as much power and is about as fast as the GS460, but returns much better fuel efficiency. In addition, sales of the last-generation GS460 were dismal in Canada, which lead to Toyota pulling the plug. There is only about 0.4 seconds separating the two models in the run to 60mph. Sure, Toyota's V8s are awesome, but their V6s are also awesome, with newer technology that closes the gap between the two.

I'll take the "old" Lexus 300hp V6 anyday over the gutless 4 bangers BMW and Audi are peddling for 60 grand.

ok. So you are equating number of gears in an auto transmission to what? It could have one gear for all I care, it's how it preforms that matters.

More gears does not always mean it's better.
What matters is how good the shifting software is.

So how much torque does the Lexus V6 makes at 2000rpm? How about those turbo 2.0 I4?

I know the turbo 4 sounds like absolute crap. Just listening to all those new bimmer 4bangers putting around is quite sad. Step on the throttle and there's no smooth power delivery and sound from the engine. turbo 4 bangers are for economy.
Lately, have heard more of the 4banger bimmers and boy do they sound horrible. Paying 50-60grand to sound like a diesel lol and revving the engine and to sound like an econobox.

You may want to reconsider after hearing all the squeaks/rattle at the dashboard, in particularly during winter months. It drove me nuts after two winters (failed attempts to fix by two different dealers) and I had to get rid of the car (07 GS350 AWD) and take a big depreciation hit. I swore I will never buy another Lexus.

doubt the depreciation hit will be as big as a bimmer. My friend just leased one... 39 months.. residual is 39% lol

^ a 7 series ?
I took an approx. 55% depreciation hits for just shy of 2 years of ownership during the 2008 financial meltdown.

Nothing wrong with the N20 engine. What's wrong is to stuff it in a mid sized luxury car, ostensibly the flagship of the BMW lineup. Not sure I want to drop 60k on a four banger with a Mitsubishi blower strapped to it.

Small displacement DI turbos are the future given CAFE regulation etc. Such is life.
Meanwhile I'm getting my big displacement V8 fix out of the way :P
EDIT: its too bad that longitudinal I6s are out too. I think the last one you could get (at least naturally aspirated) died when the X3 changed to the N20.
Uber smooth, good sound, I wonder why they couldn't just make a 2.3-2.5L I6 with a single turbo. Surely its not that complex? Single camshaft unlike V6/8 and no need for balancing shafts. Small displacement would help with packaging too.

3 series... a 7 series is around the mid 30's for residual (friend got one a year ago, bought it after finding out how much it depreciated it)

I applaud the move to small displacement turbos. My wife drives a Cruze with 1.4T engine. I also applaud cars like the Sonata and MAlibu for offering a 2L turbo as their top option instead of a V6. However, the 5 series or a6 are in a different stratosphere. Part of the ethos of 5 series ownership is making a statement: I make a shitload of money, I drive a better car than you. The 5 series clientele does not care about CAFE regulations, the price of gas, or carbon credits. It's all about conspicuous consumption.
Let's not forget this is an 1800kg car with a turbo 4 banger that puts out less power and torque than the Sonata, Regal GS or the upcoming ATS.

Car seems like great value to me considering its performance and is nicely optioned with the f-sport package and awd for around 60K. You're probably looking at about 10K in savings for similarly equipped German cars.

It lists BMW 6series coupe as a competitor. If configured to every options/packages, a 6 series will go for $130,000 (before taxes & fees). You can get 2 GS350 for that kind of price.

Bottom rung 5 series has always been slower than top rung family haulers. No different now than it was back when you could compare say a V6 Camry to a e60 528.
Personally I think the issue was more overpowered camry Altima etc than underpowered 5series.

Indeed. This is the 323i of mid sized luxury sized cars. Far more offensive is the use of fake leather on the base model, with leather a 4000$ option.

That is exactly what I thought as well. For around 63k you get a much better equipped car than with a similarly priced3 series. The car has also done great in recent car magazine tests with respect to its handling.
Based on the responses received so far it seems as though no one has bought the car yet.

but now the bottom rung 5 series not only is it slower (which was like you pointed out always the case) than the family hauers but sounds much worst as well and sounds like a subcompact.

The Sonata will spend a lot more time looking at the GS's rear than the other way around.

Obviously the older Hyundai stole their design.

Yes, the rear does look kinda boring but man, the front end of a gunmetal gray GS350 with F-sport is menacing!
