Alright, my civic is about to die so instead of putting more$ into it I need to look for something else now...

There's only 2 cars I'm interested in right now

1) 2010 civic EX-L coupe w/ 30,000km - dealer said they could drop it to $19,750 (includes taxes)

With $4500 down (or more if I sell my civic) for 6 years it would come to a bi weekly payment of $113.xx or $226/month.

2) 2012 Veloster I am interested in, same thing, 4500 down @ 5 years I think it came to $175 bi weekly (I'll have to look at the numbers again.

I still think thr civic is too much. I have a service history on thr car and 2 parts had me worried one line said "body - damage - driver window and second there were 2 lines saying 'uncategorizable' and the salesman said it was something that didn't fall under any category....

Mileage on the Veloster? All things being equal price wise, always go for the newer car. Obvious benefits and you get a much longer warranty. Also you benefit from driving something rarer and more unique than a Civic. Only downside I see is resale value and less versatility than a Civic but if you like the looks my choice would be the Veloster.

Veloster would be new.

The only thing that worries me with the Veloster is a) it's too new and have had quIte a few problems from what I've read on another forum) and b) resale value on hyundai doesn't seem that good, and I feel like they're going for looks more than quality/reliability right now...

First the Civic is a good car and your paying for that.
Second comparing a Veloster to a Civic doesn't make sense. Avoid Veloster regardless. Gutless odd car and questionable reliability.

We might have to revoke your RFDer license for this comparison ;-)

A 1-2 year old Elantra would be decent. I like the Touring because it's bigger and cheaper but gas mileage is not super great.

Other option is a '10 Mazda 3. They are in the 14-15k range.

What kind of problems? Are these minor issues or serious design flaws? As long as they're minor and you don't have to pay out of pocket I would still go for the Veloster because it's brand new and more unique. Car has been out almost a year, maybe try and get as late as production as possible? And most important don't buy anything unless you test drive both.

Unless you're going sell the hyundai a couple years down the road, who cares about resale value.

I don't really like the new civic, seems really cheaply made (interior wise) when I was sitting in one yesterday compared to the 2010/2011 models but thats me... The car itself was a company demo driven by people from head office, has 29,xxxKMs on it.

Get the Veloster turbo.

The regular one is slow.

Why drive something that you don't like. If you are keeping the veloster for long then resale value will be irrelevant.

Because I like the 2010/2011 which is what I'm looking at. Thr veloster turbo, is that out in Canada? I don't even see it listed on Hyundai.ca

It was, the dealer is asking 18k+ taxes it came to $20,707 and brought it down to $20k dead on taxes in. Seems a little much but with only 30,000km on it that's not a lot...

17K+ tax would be the most I would pay for a '10 Civic. Get it inspected. Lots of trades with hidden dmg.
It does sound nice. Good ones are hard to find.

My old man got a brand new 2012 Civic for $20,200 all in. More features on the used one doesn't justify the high price tag. In the end it's still a used R18 Civic that's asking brand new prices.

Which trim and which dealer?

113 bi weekly is NOT equal to 226 monthly
365/7/2 = 26 payments (bi weekly), not 24

Typical trap from dealers

hyundai has a new 5 year program

Hyundai is making a grab for more customer loyalty than it already enjoys with its newly launched Assurance Trade-in Value Guarantee, which, as its name suggests, guarantees future trade-in values on new car purchases. The move falls under Hyundai's wide-spanning Assurance marketing scheme, and will give buyers a solid number to determine what their car will be worth two to four years down the line.

It's just an LX, so it doesn't have any of the fancy gadgets on the EX-L. BUT, it's new. Selling a used car and asking new car prices is just silly, especially when they're both just R18s.

Yea I figured this out last night.

Decided to get all season tires for the 2000 civic I have now, will soon try one of those ac recharge kits and hope it works, may wait till late this year or mid-late next year depending on how it does before getting another car...

What I plan to do is find out a monthly payment on it + insurance. I'll put the car payment by month into my savings + whatever the difference the insurance would go up by and I'll do this for the rest of the year. If its feasible and affordable with me putting my normal savings in as well and budgeting what I normally give myself for 2 weeks ($300) then I'll do it next year with a 2013 civic probably.

Went to Sisley Hyundai today and they didn't even have a veloster to test drive and wouldn't sell me one because they're so back ordered no one can buy one now apparently. So stupid.

Thanks guys.
