I haven't been in Scarborough in so long but it has to be over 10 years minimum. I found housing there but I have no idea how the neighbourhood is. Are there easy access to shops like NoFrills? I work downtown as well so travel is going to be a nightmare but it's going to be better than my current situation.

Any locals to the area care to shed some light?

How long does it take to bus it downtown? It's kind of close to Jane/Finch, so I'm a little worried. Should I be?

Its nowhere close to jane and finch (even if it was, there shouldnt be anything to "worry" about). there is a housing project on the north-west corner though (sparroways)... but again, you dont have to be "worried" about anything. this is 2012, not 1992.

as stated before in the thread there is a no frills at don mills and finch (one major intersection east of leslie), there is another grocery store (i think its a galati last time i checked) north of finch towards steeles, and right at leslie and finch there's a bunch of asian (i think chinese or something like that), grocers.

as for getting downtown by public transit you could do it two ways: either you take the finch bus westbound to finch station and head down, or you could take the leslie bus (which isnt very frequent) south to leslie station, take subway to sheppard and then head down.

Leslie & Finch isn't in Scarborough...

Jane & Finch is way over on the west side of the city, nowhere near Leslie & Finch.

Please refer to google maps for more details.

You can only start smelling Jane and Finch once you get to about Keele/Finch.

Dufferin is a crap area, but not dangerous. Bathurst is ok.

Lesile/Finch is lesileville (social housing). Social housing on the north west / south west corner of that intersection. Jane/Finch the area is not, but not a good area, just an acceptable area.

Anothers here sounds like they have no idea what they are talking about.

It's not convenient compare to Sheppard / Lesile.

Huh? Isn't Leslieville the area downtown around Leslie and Queen East?

Leslie/Finch is NOT Leslieville. Leslieville is a neighbourhood west of The Beach.

So gang activity is rampant or what? There's a Asian plaza near there and then a block away at Don Mills is No Frills. Plus Ikea, Fairview Mall are just a short drive away.

I'd say over all it's not a bad area, the housing project on the northwest corner is a kinda shady, but far from the worst.

There's also another housing project between Sheppard and Finch on the west side (the Villaways).

Yeah, there's some housing projects around, but they're just housing projects, not "nightly shootout projects". They're not particularly nice places but nothing to be worried about from a safety standpoint.

As an aside, is there a reason why the city loves to call streets "Bob Johnsonway" or "Red Foxway" rather than "Bob Johnson Way" and "Red Fox Way"? It just looks really weird.

It's not bad at all - Yes there's public housing on two corners, but within a three minute walk are million dollar homes.

I live a few of blocks north of Finch -> north of the power lines is a good neighbourhood.

^^ Large Expensive homes South of Finch on Leslie - it's close to Bayview/Sheppard-Finch which has some of the nicest homes in North York. Close to Bayview Village too which is a upscale Mall. It takes around 45 mins or less to get downtown if you go to Finch Station. Overall it's a good area in North York (not Scarborough)

I guess you really don't want to live in those multi-million dollar houses in Bayview/Finch because they are even closer to Jane/Finch comparing with Leslie/Finch.

I can easily say that what you wrote is wrong - The corridor on Finch between Bathurst and Don Mills is one of the least shady, best areas to live in in Toronto.

This pretty much. A few intersections south of the intersection are some of the nicest areas in Toronto. Also plenty of good schools around there Finch/Leslie (if that's important to you), parks, grocery stores, etc.

You guys are all noobs. This thread is a troll thread. Anyone that was serious in living in the Leslie/Finch area would have Google mapped it and know it's nowhere even close to Jane/Finch.

But to answer the question in case there are other noobs looking to move to the area, that area sucks. Nothing to do in the area except visit the (now) Asian strip plaza at the NE corner. SE and SW corner is where there is ghetto low income housing. A little bit south of Finch on Leslie, there are newer homes, but still, those home are opposite of ghetto townhomes.

If you're looking for a nice area, you should go west on Bayview and continue south. Hook a left onto Post Road. If you hit Lawrence, you went too far.

I live at Leslie at McNicoll (one street away from Leslie + Finch). Been living in that neighbourhood for about 20 years now

I haven't heard of a single case of shootings anywhere near the vicinity of this area. There is a nice plaza with Tim Hortons, Pizza Pizza, a doctors office, dentist, shoppers drug mart, and a higher end supermarket store (Galati's) just about a 7-10 minute walk north from Leslie/Finch.

Sure, there is police sometimes at the housing projects for whatever reason, but there has never been any 'gang-related' shootings/robbery etc... that happened in the area. These kids don't bother anybody around the neighbourhood.

As for commute, I also take the bus downtown to work everyday. Since I live about a 7-10min walk away from Leslie/Finch, it takes me about 7-10min to walk to Leslie/Finch and takes about 2 minutes to wait for the 39 Finch bus or the 199 Finch Express bus to Finch station. Should take about no more than 15-20 minutes on average to Finch station depending on traffic.

Finch station to Bloor/Yonge by subway takes about 30-40 minutes.

Like everybody else said, Leslie/Finch is NOWHERE near Jane/Finch. If there was any sort of gang-related activity around this area, I would have probably moved long time ago.

There's No Frills and Yonge / Steeles (centerpoint), there's food basic as well not too far.

Yes I do, not in that area anymore. Terrible info, yes I agree. I don't really have time to remember the name of that housing project, it's completely useless data for me. Not even worth my time to google it.

I used to live in that area, like the other guy was saying. The moment that the china immigrants / korean immigrants moved in, I was the hell outta there.

are you serious? Where do you live? Sparroway? Not heard of any shootings? Why don't you Google Toronto star articles for this?
Not heard about Sparrow gangs, Abrams, Tamil gangs near Peanut Plazza and all their rivalries? This is one of the Four corners of four gangs.

For all intents and purposes, those crazy kids might be on another planet, as far as he's concerned. They don't normally cross the hydro corridor. Besides, "Four Corners gangs" aren't remotely in the same league as Jane/Finch drug distributors gangs, they're mostly dangerous to themselves.
I'm not a huge fan of the area (schools generally suck, for one reason or another), but it is quite livable for a childless person/family.

^^J&F honestly is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. If you go out looking for trouble it will find you, but if you just want to go to the main mall or whatever it's not bad at all. I think unless you are walking around Driftwood at 3am you don't have much to worry about. Most of the victims of crime in the area are targeted. I've walked through J/F area plenty of times by myself (at night) and never had any issue.

Agree its not as bad as Jane/Finch. But there have been shooting at 5.00pm at Jane /Finch or Driftwood. May not in last few months.
Sparroway and Brahms was mentioned as a clue to Four corners(not abrams).

I've been in the downtown area pretty much all my life. I don't follow any urban/gangs related news but is the Sparroway/Brahms area where they hang out, deal, etc? The house is pretty close to the Sparroway area but my location now (Lansdowne/Bloor) can be pretty shady at night as well which is why I said it is an improvement. Granted I haven't seen any news articles about shootings around L/B but I've seen prostitutes and shady people if I find myself out on the rare occasion. I looked at the Leslie/Finch area and it just seems very quiet (around noon time). I work at night so I'll be taking the Finch bus around 9pm.. would hate to be confronted by thugs or something.

If you can move just a bit south to Leslie and Sheppard, I think you'd appreciate it... although there's no No Frills around there. But IKEA, cdn tire, subway, hospital are all there.
Sounds like you don't have a car, so being near subway stn will be useful.
