you can try:
http://www.getsharepod.com/
you will also need the itunes drivers:
(as mentioned already, but you didn't give him an alt to copytrans which he said didn't work!)
http://download.cnet.com/CopyTrans-Drivers-Installer/3000-18546_4-75300288.html
(I know you said copytrans didn't work, but this is just the itunes driver installer,.)
none of the programs will work without ipod drivers.

thanks. i will try it with the drivers...
the problem with copytrans is that the ipod is the latest generation, and copytrans need to update the software for it to be compatible with this latest generation....

What isn't working?
To add files you click file - add files, or add folder. You can also drag and drop into iTunes.

Are you getting some sort of error?

Why did you buy a Nano then? With any other MP3 player, all you have to do is plug it in and drag MP3s onto it.

I used media monkey, much better in every way than the itunes crap.
Mind you you still need to have itunes installed for a lot of these music managers to work (for driver reasons primarily).

I'd give it back, iTunes is a horrible software "echosystem" that should be redesigned to make one's life simpler by drag and dropping music like any normal phone/mp3 player would have it.

They want you to believe that your PC is crap and you need a nice new mac to run itunes nice and fast.
I got an ipod nano as well (freebie from a supplier, would never buy one of these grossly overpriced players) and use foobar2000. Its extremely lightweight and an amazing music player, highly configurable and you can get it to sync to your ipod with some configuration effort.

As for itunes I suggest uninstalling that malware asap.

I sold my iPod when I bought an Android phone. Deleting Itunes from my computer gave me the same good feeling as burning my school books at the end of the school year.

I've had an iphone for awhile, I gotta get rid of it, I despise itunes, it stinks. I wouldn't ccare except Apple FORCES you to f**kin use it, as media monkey stopped working with iphone the way it used too.
LAME!

A lot of people including myself would rather copy and paste onto the actual device, it makes your life much easier to not rely on a program to do that for you.
Itunes is great as a media manager, but when it comes to transferring files, its annoying to be forced to use itunes.

You plug your device in and it transfers the files. I guess I don't understand how if you are already using iTunes to manage your media, it would make life easier to copy and past to the device. If the media is managed, like I said in the first line, all you do is plug the device in and it transfers what you have chosen.

I'm a Apple user and love iTunes.
I didn't understand the hate until I recently bought my Samsung 14" UltraBook (Series 5). Windows 7 it's a different story, not sure what's going (I started a thread it lagging) but I removed and re-installed it again. So far, it's running smooth. *knock-on-wood*

This. Unless something doesn't work right, it's easy. Intact I just leave iTunes running on my computer all the time then when I plug my iPhone in at night it does auto wifi sync and backup. Updates my podcasts nightly this way. It's great. People often just don't like the automation, but to me that's the whole benefit if it

I use iTunes more on my PC than I do my Macbook and the only issue I had was YEARS ago when there was a botched release (I think it was version 7.1?). Never any issue otherwise. I use it both for syncing my iPhone and iPad, but also streaming to my airport express with airtunes using my iPhone as a remote.

well, you still have to open 'my computer' or whatever to do it, so same amount of steps.
i guess if your okay with batch renaming with an mp3 tagger or having your device full of '#1 HIT SONG RADIO RELEASE-P1tbowl-Rain_Over.Me.ft.0Marc_Anthony.mp3' drag and drop is fine..
but really, iTunes handles music well. I used to despise it, until Genius came out. I gave it another chance and found it to be the simplest thing I've ever used. Prior to this I had to either manually rename every damn track i wanted, then retag it with mp3 renamer or hope that the release I had was tagged properly. iTunes, the updated version of CDDB... nuff said.

Is it too much to ask for D&D ability though? What about photo's? Movies?
BTW Lot's of those #1 HIT SONG RADIO RELEASE-P1tbowl-Rain_Over.Me.ft.0Marc_Anthony.mp3 files have metadata that is just fine. Ton's of my music library has file names like Track #3 but reads just fine in the player.

iTunes can sync them all. Click on the device listed in iTunes and click on the tabs at the top to either sync all or pick and choose.

Yeah I know, but most people are 10x more familiar with windows explorer and 20x faster with it. I've not tried to use iTunes to sync photo's for some time but I have a distinct memory of how much of a PITA it is. When you want to scroll through thumbnails quickly.
Mass storage mode is incredibly useful. What if you want to just move a file, take something with you for playback on another device but it is not in a recognized proprietary format. It's 3x more useful with removable SD cards.
iTunes might work, but it's like saying "Close the patent office, we've got it all figured out."

For me I just hate bloatware. If there is something out there that does as good of a job, or better, and runs lighter...im all over it. And itunes runs exceptionally heavy for what ultimately is just a mp3 player with some added garbage that I personally wouldn't use anyway (like the itunes store).
I apply this rule to everything, not just itunes.
