Due in a few months and beginning to do some shopping.

No idea where to start when it comes to diaper bags - recommendations are much appreciated from other parents.

I'm looking for something that's not too big, relatively lightweight but has a changing pad. It'll probably become my purse as well so pockets and such would be great. It doesn't have to be the most stylish, but something that's not hideous would also be great. Budget isn't as important as value and quality :)

Go for the Tumi Baby bag if you want something stylish and cost isn't an issue.

if you want stylish then petunia pickle bottom

i bought two totes that i can now use as purses, they are on the smaller side, but will fit couple of diapers, and some clothes, they come with a case for wipes, a pad, and clips for a stroller

get a really big purse that you'll enjoy using...
wife used a few, but once she got her coach diaper bag, that was the only one she used.
as for the change pad....wouldn't worry about it...just get one of those kushies pads that have one side waterproof. easier to use and less bulky. we've had changing pads on their one, and attached to the bag....got to cumbersome as you just want to change and get out some times. plus, you will not alway have time or the availablity of a "traditionally" changeing surface.

So far, I've gone through 2 diaper bags, and my LO is 10 month old. Both bags I have are from mexx. I used a larger one when he was smaller as I had to tow around more bottles and more change of clothes, etc.
As he's much older now, and doesn't require so many bottles and such to lug around, I use a smaller diaper bag.

First few months I used a skip-hop. After that when I really didn't need to carry much, I used the free diaper backpack they send you with Nestle. It's great, light, includes a change pad. Quality sucks, but heck, you're carrying diapers and crap like that.

We use a Ju Ju Be, I think it is the Be All one. All I know is, it holds enough for 2 kids, and then my wife's stuff as well.

*Edit* Posted wrong model, we have the Be All, not the Be Prepared. Got it on Babysteals.com for $60.

I love my Ju Ju Be BFF! I love that it's a convertible bag (backpack style or with a messenger strap). I can stuff a lot of things into it for my baby plus it can hold my things as well. I no longer bring a bag for my things. But most of all, it's machine washable!!

I also have the Ju Ju Be Fuel Cell which is great to hold all of my little ones food, sippy cups and bibs when we go out. Or I use it to hold some toys and books.

Bought both of my Ju Ju Be's at SnuggleBugz.ca... They have free shipping for stuff over $40! I love that store!

I first bought a Skip Hop Ultimate Bento bag and though I found the many zippered compartments useful in the beginning, I realized that i fumbled around too much looking for stuff. Plus, the bag doesn't stay upright unless there's something in the bottom zippered section. I'm actually thinking of selling this bag on kajiji.

P.s. the change pad that comes with the JuJuBe, I've found is softer than the others I own.

I have found that Winners has a lot of great diaper bags, we got a great Skip Hop bag there, good price too.

I used a skip hop with my first and loved it - due any day now and hoping to use the same. Change pad is handy and pockets and easy to strap to stroller. Have see older styles at winners for a good deal

^^ditto^^

The free diaper backpack is great. I just had a kid on May 28th and i use this bag only. I keep 4 diapers, couple of onesies, small wipes pack, vaseline, a roll of garbage bag, changing mat and still has plenty of room left over. food is mommy's breast - but can easily fit milk bottle if needed to be. I figure a bigger bag would only be required when going to long outings and the kid requires more - bottled milk, formulas, food, water, ... For now, the free backpack is just fine, especially when it doesn't look feminist.

before the baby was born i signed at most of these baby supplies companies and they send you coupons or items. Nestle was very quick - 1 or 2 days and I got their package. I signed up at:
Nestle [got some diapers, formula, bag with mat, instructions], Pampers [zilch - have to collect points now to get something], Johnson and Johnson [got 1 coupon for small baby items pack: shampoo, lotion, ...; 2x $1 off coupon], similac [formula], enfamil [formula], Shoppers Drug Mart [i can't recall].
