So I was doing a bit of DIY upgrading on my MacBook Pro and I mistakenly knocked off the audio output connector on the logic board. Basically, that is a small receptacle that the speaker wire plugs into. That receptacle is soldered onto the logic board in two small places and I knocked it off at the solder points.

Now I have no audio out of one speaker. It's not as if the MBP produces high-quality audio to begin with, but it's still annoying.

So far I've talked to three repair shops and they all want to replace the logic board, which seems like overkill to me. I'd like someone (obviously less klutzy as me) to try re-soldering the connector, but I can't seem to find anyone with the skills or willingness to do it...

Any ideas?

Sorry to hear that, I bet once they heard there was accidental damage to the logic board area they were licking their lips because that repair is a good 900-1200 out of your pocket.

Do you have a picture of the break for the audio?

if you open it yourself, take it to basically any place that solders. find someone who does repairs/etc for consoles.. if everything is prepped it shouldnt cost you much.. but pictures would certainly spark some interest from members here.

if its just a straight resolder, it would only take 5 to 10 minutes and i'd hope that no one charges you more then $20.

I took my Mac that was liquid damaged to them and they fixed the issue overnight. Toronto or Mississauga.

if the repair is too costly, go out and get a USB sound interface. shouldn't cost you more than $25.
