Have a huge firepit area in the backyard with landscaping ties as the border. I want to put on another level on it as it is filled with pea gravel, and more and more just keeps getting kicked out, etc, etc.

Its a hexagon shape, and I didnt measure the 4 long sides since I assumed they were just 8 feet. Whenm I got home they are 9 feet, and I would prefer not to cut two 8 foot ones to make a 9 foot.

I have seen them before, but I cant find anything local. Ive tried totem, home depot, rona, walmart, Canadian tire and even some local landscaping places. Every place says never seen them longer than 8

Before I keep hunting, are ties made over 8 feet anymore? Never thought something simple like this would be so hard to find

No go, I totally forgot about them to. Maybe it was a certain run one year at a store or something. Looks like I will just have to buy two 8 footers and cut them.

Windsor Plywood does not have them either. I put an ad on Kijiji seeing if anyone knew of where. Got a reply that a golf course was giving away a bunch of 10 foot ones last year because of a flood, but called and nothing left.

So they are out there, just have to find them

Another option would be to lift the current ties up then install some PT 2x6's on edge in the old positions of the ties. Then re-install the ties on top of the 2x6's and back fill.

Might not have the desired look but would achieve the same results I'm thinking...

THought that, but will pass. I dont want the square edges like that, I wanted rounded for just in case of kids falling, etc.

Plus its more work then what I want to do

If you are willing to redo the entire thing (will require some trimming of the current ties, and the purchase of new 8' ties), an octogon with 7' sides would be fairly close in area to the current 9' hexagon.

9' hexagon has area of 210 ft^2

7' octogon has an area of 236 ft^2

If you wanted to make it larger, leaving the ties as 8' in an octogon would have an area of 309 ft^2.

Not really, I just wanted to add another level, cheap and easy, not make it an entire weekend project of ripping out stuff, dealing with new sod, getting more pea gravel, etc, etc

Its not en emergency, but if I dont find something the next while. ill just cut 2-8 foot ties in half and do that. Just would of prefered the clean look of one long tie is all

5 from Brooks to Guelph, 2.5 each way. You just saved 3 days, might be worth it now. :)

Isn't there a CPR base in Medicine Hat? I thought there was a pretty large crew based out of there. If so, you might want to see if they could hook you up.

Im pretty sure the CPR isnt going to do a favour for some random stranger. Nice idea, but dont have the time to do all this just to get something simple.
