So the wife and I each have a car, and I want to purchase another car but keep the other two. I called up my insurance company and they quoted me on 3 cars but no discount for the extra car. Is this how all insurance companies treat an extra car? Are there companies that charge a lower rate on an extra car since there's always one car that won't be driven at the same time as the others? The person that gave me the quote told me that I can suspend the insurance on the car I don't want to use, but it must be for a minimum of 60 days at a time.

I don't think there will be another multi-car discount for the 3rd car. Some companies will give you a better rate, because the risk is not there when the 3rd car is not on the road. If you have only 2 drivers at that address, then I am sure some companies give you a better rate. You might need to switch companies to get a good rate.

Previously in the same situation and I'm sure our 3rd car was given the same multi vehicle discount as the 2nd car (10%??).
I think even adding the camping trailer qualified for the discount (4th insured "vehicle") as I recall thinking the additional cost of $200 was offset by the 10% discount as our premium didn't change
This is with TD Meloche Monnex

There should be a 'more vehicles than drivers' discount.
Also, how frequently will you be using car #3? You could remove liability from it and just swap as required (e.g. a summer and winter car)

Desjardins gives 15% vs the 10% for third car.. they wouldn't let me insure it for theft only though, it had to be full coverage.

no special rate; however, you will get "more vehicles than operators discount"...no need to suspend then reinstate coverage on one, just reduce to comp coverage only if you are not going to drive one of them...you usually suspend/reinstate coverage (OPCF 16& 17) when you don't have another vehicle on the road so that you will still be covered for accident benefits coverage. Clearly this isn't the situation since you'll have 2 other vehicles with liability/accident benefits on them.
