So lets say you wanted to have a body part for one reason or another.
What body parts would you NOT accept from a donor?
i.e. lungs from a smoker

Can lungs or most parts be even donateable?

I definitely wouldn't accept any parts from Japanese concept artists.

Sure, even the lungs from a smoker, which I suspect is why this thread was created.

Although lung transplant patients who receive the lungs of smokers tend to survive for a shorter duration than patients who receive the lungs of non-smokers, researchers in the UK have found that they have a better overall chance of survival than those who remain on waiting lists.

The point of this thread?!
It's not like you get a choice when you're actually in need of a transplant.

I think if a person were at the point where they were needing a transplant, they would be willing to accept the part from any donor if it became available...?

Must be nice to have the luxury of debating the choice of organs you would not accept when you're not in any position where an organ transplant is a major concern.

And to add to the thread getting a hand transplanted would be creepy.

I have a child hood friend in a locked room. Only 2 more body parts and I will have swapped every part.
There is no part that I will not take.

On a serious note I watched my father in law get a new lease on life from the kidney he got after waiting 12 years. It was like his body rebooted he looks so refreshed and full of life it's amazing what happens when someone gives the gift of life.

A tongue from anybody, doesn't matter who.
Actually, if I had the choice, I might not accept any transplant if it wasn't life threatening. I've read the body naturally rejects a transplant and heavy regime of drugs is required to suppress the immune system.
So, I don't really know...

If I was dying and need a heart/lung/liver I'd probably end up accepting anything my doctor thought was in good enough condition to prolong my life....
If taking medication and eating a very strict diet could fix the damage that the organ had, I don't see the problem in accepting it....
To me life is valuable, any chance I'd have to prolong it, I'd take it....
I didn't read all the posts in this thread, if someone posted something similiar and my point of view was discussed I apologize.

Does anyone think we'll ever be able to transplant a whole head?
That would be really weird... it wouldn't even be you anymore. It's bad enough when you transplant eyes because you never know what those eyes saw before you got them.

It does, the body recognizes the new organ as a foreign object and attacks it as such. Immunosuppressant drugs have come a long way (but they still do use prednisone which in some people can be a pretty bad drug to be on), but there are still side affects, but IMHO they are worth it over the alternative.
The drugs are also VERY expensive, so you do need to have good insurance or no insurance (because even if you have crap insurance the government won't pay any unless you don't have any insurance). One drug I'm on at the moment costs almost $25 per pill and it is taken daily.

It seems to be every other man's desire, but I wouldn't get my exchanged for the best...as the one I have works for me - I wouldn't want to have somebody else's entering into my gf. And it's been the most fun part of my body I would't want to let it go.
Remember a Chinese man had his done, once his got crushed in an accident?...he himself and his wife couldn't accept the fact that it belongs to somebody else and they ended up removing the transplant.

This is true. No matter how similar one's blood type is to yours, the transplanted organ will get rejected at one point (process is much quicker with an incompatiable organ of course). Immunosuppresants are given to prevent the organ from getting rejected initially and the organ will eventually settle in with the recipient until the organ fails some time in the future.
Back on topic, if I had a choice, I'd rather not get any sort of organ from anyone. However, if it means prolonging one's life or if by accepting the organ, the quality of life improves by a huge margin, I'd take it regardless of how unwilling I am about it. It's hard to give a serious consideration about something like this until you're in a situation where you truly need the transplant.

BTW, I hope the people on this thread have signed up to be an organ donor? When I signed up, I remember requesting that my corneas be left with me. Eyes seem personal.

I went to renew my health card not long ago and I was sitting in this big line while person after person went past the sign-in desk to register for the card and was asked if they wanted to fill out their donor form or "leave it for now".
Every single one of them said they'd "leave it for now".

It's not surprising, people don't like to think about their own mortality or dying.....Thinking about donating their organs probably gets them thinking about their eventual death and it scares them...

I will accept any part as long as it will add years to my life.
