First, sorry for asking the same question again but I found the answers in the older CMA AP program (5 yrs ago) so I thought it would be useful if I ask the question again and hopefully those who took this CMA AP in the last 3 yrs or so can help me out. I'm planning to take CMA AP program and I do have a BComm (non acct major) but I've been out of school for a long time ( 10+ yrs) and I'm wondering how many hours should I be studying per week if I want to get thru this CMA AP program and pass the EE. I did quite well in the Intro Accounting and Intro to Mgmt Accounting courses while I was school but it was years ago. My current job is somewhat accounting-related but not too much ( I do ERP implementation but on the technical IT side) and I'm planning to spend around 10 hrs/wk for the CMA AP program. Would this be adequate? Can you please share with me your experience with the AP program. Thanks all!

I just completed AP year 1. There really isn't a fixed amount of time I spent on the program per week. Actually, most weeks I did nothing at all. First month or two you'll probably spend over 15 hours on the case assigments. This is because they do not tell you how to do it. They just provide a high level outline of what is required. So most of the time is spending figuring out what to do.

After the first interactive session they then teach you/tell you what they are looking for. From there it should be smooth sailing. 5 hours a week if there is a case assisgnment, other wise less if not nothing at all. They assign alot of reading...which you really don't need to do and still be really successful in the program.

But from what i've heard year 2 requires more time because you'll need to meet with group members for the board presentation

i think you misunderstood... OP was asking about the AP not SLP

OP - are you in the 14 month program or the 7 month program? also, did you enrol in class lectures or online video ones?

10 hour/week should be okay in the beginning however, for some topics you'll need more (for the sake of practice). main issues tend to be getting comfortable with the terms/accounts and then remembering the steps that follow because there is a lot of repetition and overlap which can throw people off. do try your best to keep up with the pace though. you'll like come across a couple of topics that'll require more time and practice (cash flow statements, pensions, etc) so you'll need to budget the time accordingly.

Thanks. I'm planning to go for the 7 month program (dist learning). Just a quick verification here, I have a question about the quiz, do they recycle them or something? I noticed ads on kijiji trying to sell solution for CMA AP quizzes ...strange...I thought quizzes should be different from year to year. I also notice that people mentioned about lecture DVDs, does CMA provide this for distant learning or we have to buy this separately? Thanks all
