How are they determining who the 'first 300, 000 customers' are? Are the underwear distributed to all locations and the salespeople have to check a national database to determine what number you are at?

I imagine they'll split the 300,000 free pairs across all of their stores (either evenly or by how busy each store is).

So what, maybe 500 per store?

Jun 1st, 2012, 11:18 AM
As per Wiki, they have 378 stores, which averages out to 794 per store. More likely 300 - 1200 per depending on store volume.

All things considered, that's a lot per store for "Free Underwear"
I can't really see many stores running out fast (if at all), but you never know.

This is not a charity promotion, they are doing this in the hopes you buy more underwear from them. I also would not expect any company to give $10 pairs of underwear for free to homeless people. This. Accomplishes the same advertising objective with many people likely coming back to buy more. Homeless people probably not buying more...
I will be there to get my free pair.

They could get a lot more value out of the positive media coverage that would come from a large and generous donation to those less fortunate. Homeless people need underwear too you know, on an ongoing basis, so why wouldn't they support those helping them with future purchases? Especially when they get back on their feet, as, with a little assistance, they hopefully will.
You hold onto your free pair for when your time of need inevitably comes...

so why wouldn't they support those helping them with future purchases?
i highly doubt homeless people are going to drop $10 for a pair of underwear because they like how it feels. they either get them donated, or they steal them or buy them from the dollar store. if it all.... it is much more likely that someone with a job and disposable income would return to Mark's to buy more pairs.
i understand what you are saying about goodwill, but from a business perspective, they are getting more bang from their advertising buck this way.
and thanks, i will enjoy my free pair.

Mark's Work Warehouse is now going under the name of MARKS. Same place. They are just trying to get away from the just "work clothes" stigma that comes with the old name. We shall see if it works for them. I for one never shop there.

Ok, going to give some slack here as the poster did not say if they bought any extra pairs to add up to the 12 but if it was a freebie 12.......

Mark's also commissioned a national survey to find out whether men even care about what kind of underwear they wear - and the results turned up some surprising results.
Nearly half of all men surveyed (46%) admitted that they have had issues with underwear and sweat (specifically that they are not satisfied with the way their underwear keeps them dry) - something Mark's new Denver Hayes with dri-Wear underwear will address
Boxer-briefs are the most-favoured men's underwear with 37% of Canadian men choosing the hybrid-underwear model
More than 1/3 of all men (36%) admit to wearing LESS than 7 pairs of underwear per week
Most men prefer to buy their own underwear (86%), although 11% admitted to letting their wives buy underwear for them and 3% said 'mom' still does their shopping

Is it a true sizing on those Mark's undies? I take a M would I need to go +/- 1 size?

Thanks again OP.

They asked me my waist size and I said 32..and they gave me a small! :S
But you are saying even a size L is too small for 32?

The waist is ok but the length of the shorts is my issue. Its rides up in the inner thighs and seems too tight for me. Maybe it needs to be worn in for a few days or so. This is my first time with trunk briefs.

Ugh, agreed.
I was stuck at an intersection for atleast 20mins. Great cause, but burned a ton of gas just for a pair of underwear. lol.
I'm not wasting my time and gas chasing men's underwear. ;) I stayed home and watched the Euro 2012 football.

Thought not.

I got one pair for hubby, and realized it's only 60% cotton. I personaly prefer cotton underwear, all of my own are at least 95% cotton. Guess at least it can go to Goodwill.

I stopped in this afternoon and nobody was there.
Their only choices were small or medium.
Given the chance, I probably would have asked for a large, but took the medium since I'm only a 33-34 anyways.
She said that the medium is 34-36, so I'm assuming the small is 32-34, and the large 36-38
Aren't these are supposed to be tight(ish), which would explain why the large seemed small to the other poster.
I never asked, but she gave me 2 pairs anyways... Did they deliberately put the girls on cash today. ;)

There was a line up of about 20 people at the cashier. Then some smart worker noticed the big line up and said, "If you're here for the underwear come over to this side of the counter and I will help you." Everyone, but two people in the line went over to get their underwear.

I'd say its worth it. They retail is $20 that is grossly overpriced. They are worth maybe $5-7 each.

I went at 10:30 am to the Vancouver store and there was no line up. I only noticed one other person ask for the free underwear the whole time I was there (15 minutes).
I've lived a few blocks away from this store for years and had never gone in the store. For the price of a pair of underwear, it got me in the store and now I know that they have way more than just work clothes and will consider buying there another time.

I heard something like 1 in 5 men are affected by cancer so look around you. If you see 5 guys around likely one is affected. :(
I see the cyclist thing both ways. I drive and I also ride as much as I can by choice then driving. It is a great cause and also keeping fit as well.

Yah I think it's so the girls can get a giggle or check out some hunky or dorky guys. :cheesygri:D Hehe... anyways the undies are compression fit. So they are supposed to be tight like 'second skin' but stretchy and not like tight without expansion.
If you're a size M regular fit with Fruit of the Looms a size L in the Mark's undies are supposed to fit like FoL's M size. However if you want the second skin feel for great wicking effect then get the size you normally wear. At least that is how the CSR girl explained it to me at Mark's. I for one am going to give my pair a try and if feels good I'm likely going to buy another or a few more in time when I have more money for my EDC bag.

dream on like stuff made in bangladesh, china, india, and other places costs cents or less like apple made stuff in slave labour countries or extremely minimum wage countries but that is how capitalism and shareholder controlled companies work to pay salaries and trade shares on the market - good for shareholders and c level management but the consumer is screwed just like the grocery store model like loblaws amd bell/rogers; that is what the students in montreal are ultimately fighting for although a little disjointed; just like g8/g20 as the new generations are pissed off with economic models of gov't that are politics/backroom dealing without wikileaks and bribery/kickbacks driven unless you are the kids of the multimillionaires/billionaires that want to be trillionaires and even more greedy using nickel and diming and business intelligence/social media/emotional quotient/big data analytics up the yinyang to drive profits through the roof
on topic the underwear is slightly like jockey and the jockey sports model is 80% poly and 20 cotton sort of like the good golf shirts because of moisture wicking which cotton is not designed for on it's own but more natural

The next generation is going to receive the bills from the previous generations overspending. The generous pensions given to public servants and employees of a few large companies are a thing of the past. I am telling everyone that is a retired teacher, city worker that the government will be cutting some of the those benefits in the future (already happening in the U.S.). I know people that started teaching at 20 retired at 50 and will receive a pension indexed to inflation for 40 years. We cannot afford it anymore. In Quebec students paid the lowest tuitions in North America. Quebec with a struggling economy/high debt cannot afford it. It will take a decade for countries/people to pay down debt and wring out the excesses of the past. The boom days with high economic growth are over for now. Sorry but cannot be very positive. People will need to spend less and save more.
P.S. love the underwear.

Really??? I am so offended by this I am signing in at work (which I am not meant to be doing).
You find that "these (I won't bother with your expletives) people" are offending your right to free underwear? That these cyclists are bothersome and have unending nerve to cause you to have to wait a massive 20 minutes out of your entire life for your free underwear? That the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, one of the biggest CANCER research facilities on the planet, is merely a "charity corporation" and not deserving of fundraising? While I may have issue as well with how many of the Charities are run these days, "these (I won't bother with your expletives) people" raised a whopping and awesome 18 MILLION DOLLARS on their bikes for CANCER RESEARCH - while you were sitting on your *ss in your car on your way to get free underwear instead of doing something good for the world like they were.
If no one raises money for CANCER RESEARCH then how do you suppose a CURE will be found in our lifetimes?!? My uncle practiced riding his bike 3 hrs every day in every kind of weather so as to be able to complete the monumental challenge of this ride - him and hundreds of thousands of other people. If this was such a massive waste of time, why did they all make the commitment? It's because it is guaranteed that someone in your family will get cancer, if not many someone's in your family, at some point in your lifetime - (though I truly wish this on no one, it is what it is) - and all you will want is for them to be CURED. If funds don't get raised, treatment options do not become available; new research won't find better options that get stronger results; and more people won't SURVIVE the destruction that Cancer brings.
While underwear is great, eradicating Cancer in our lifetime is WAY more important.
