I'm just wondering if anyone got flack for tinted windows.

Don't bother. If tinting shops refuse to do it (I've asked), you can bet it's illegal.

It's illegal, will all depend on the cop if you get stopped and ticketed.

I hope that's not your actual plate. Regardless, if you are driving outside the province (especially in the US), an Ontario license plate alone attracts enough attention as it is from the highway/interstate cops. Don't give them anymore reason to ticket/arrest you.

I forgot to add OP, that 15% tinting (especially the front two windows) is REALLY pushing it, nevermind the windshield.
Unless you are the chauffeuring the prime minister or president, I don't think you will get away with it.

Good luck finding a shop that will do it. I'm pretty sure if you run 15s on the front windows, you'll have a ticket in the first year, let alone trying to run it on the windshield.

Been running 15% all around (except windshield) for over a year now, no probs. You're definitely asking for trouble if you manage to get a shop to tint your windshield with 15% though. Autolinks has some Airblue 80 tint which should be a safe bet though (for the windshield).

15% all around is fine. I get pulled over for the most stupidest stuff but never for tints. I run 15% all around with a black interior so its really dark. However if you put a tint on your windshield I would go for the lightest tint possible around 80% and get non reflective tint as in ceramic tint. If u usethe metal based ones then you will get a lot of reflection and electronic interference with your cellphone. 250 all around for tints. Around 200 for windshield as it is custom cut.

To make it legal you must get a doctors note stating that you suffer from a skin problem the requires you to have tinted windshield.

Even Llumar Air Blue 80% is somewhat obvious. It adds a lot of reflections and a blue hue to the windshield. The heat rejection is worth it though!

What % are your other windows tinted OP? Do you realize how dark 15% in the windshield looks at night (assuming that your other windows are tinted similar)? It's gonna just be a wall of black. You won't be able to see inside and that's just asking to be hassled. If you wanna tint the windshield do 50-70% and open the other windows at night and you should be good.

(I run 17%s on my black car all around except windshield and have never been hassled even when cops handed out the bs tickets)

YMMV tho

I have 5% all around (except windshield of course) with black interior, it looks full black (like someone just spray painted the windows black), even during the day, and i haven't been stopped by police. Had 20% on my previous car and 5% on the car before that. Even when I would get stopped the cop never mentioned the tint. Where as I have friends that got warnings and one that got a ticket for tints.

so honestly, it all depends on the cop. theres probably a 1 in 10 or 1 in 15 chance that you will get that ******* cop that will give you the ticket for even light tint on the front windows.

As for tinting your windshield, that's just plain stupid imo. don't even think darker than 80%, and i can't even imagine a shop that would be willing to do that. The guy that tinted my current car didn't even want to do 5% all around..

Nevermind the fact that it's highly illegal, it's down right dangerous and stupid. You're not gonna be able to see jack **** at night with a 15% windshield.

Technically ANY tint on ANY windows is illegal, but tint on the front window is just asking for it 100%

Its not illegal in Ontario, but the laws are very very vague.
I came across this while doing research prior to getting my car tinted:

http://www.windowfilm.ca/auto/autofaq.html

For Ontario specifically:

"Ontario - For the driver’s compartment, right and left, no film can be installed that would substantially obscure visibility from the exterior. Behind the driver’s compartment, any film can be installed."

i.e. it's up to the cop's discretion on whether they need to "reach their ticket quota" for the day.

And some more info here: http://home.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/

Bottomline is: If your car is tinted, do your research before visiting the U.S. and other parts of Canada so that you know what the risks are.

We've had every car the family has owned tinted ever since I can remember. All of my cars are tinted now, all of them except one are 17% all around. Done by Audio Heaven. I actually just brought over an exotic from the states and I'll probably do 17% on that too.

I've been stopped once and once only for tint and the boys in blue strictly asked if I could put my window up and he'll shine his flashlight through to see if he can see my dash lights (which is pretty stupid but hey they only have high school education right?). I told him the car was from New Jersey and I haven't had time to change the tints yet. He said it wasn't even a problem and let me go.

My dad whose in his early 60's now has 20% all around on his '12 Camry SE and cops haven't said anything to him.

Folks around here need to loosen up.

I just got 35% front driver and passenger, and 23% rear, and back passenger seats with tan interior from Audio Heaven. Love it. Although not as dark as I would I have liked, its dark enough and I feel comfortable driving around cops - which is huge for me lol. I don't have the time to be fighting tickets.

Your dad, who is in his 60s, driving a Camry isn't exactly the best example of why people should slap on 20% all around.

That is completely different than someone in their 20s driving an Integra Type R at night.

I had a highly but tastefully modified '07 Accord with negative camber and stretched tires on wide rims. I did fall into that profile of someone who cops pulled over for stupid stuff. Tint was never one of them, except for one occasion. I'm in my mid 20's by the way.

You're missing the main point here. You're right that tinting is not very heavily enforced.
But OP wanted his WINDSHIELD tinted 15%, which is just outright dangerous (might as well paint your windshield black).

Your age won't matter if the cops can't see behind the windows anyway =p

I know a few people that have tinted the front windshield in Ontario ... vehicle specific, some get pulled over more than others but you're DEFINITELY looking for trouble, not to mention the windshield is the lifeline to your safety, why would you want to darken it at all?
Really big in the U.S., especially in the southern states so it seems. I've seen it a lot on YouTube for the car audio / modded cars ... I think the guys tinting the windshield are nuts though.

I'd do 5% all around before I tint the WINDSHIELD lol

OP, what colour is your car (and type), what colour is your interior, what colour is your face ... no but seriously, these are all things to consider.

I drive with with about 15% in the front, 5% in the back, grey interior, car is a 4-door grandpa car, I will never get pulled over for my windows.
Try my tint on a 2-Door Acura or some sort of sports car, you can forget about it.

And the face comment is just the likelyhood of a police officer seeing your face on the road, then thinking about pulling you over.
Just be safe, that's all. Your comfort level, forget the numbers. 20% all around is dark my friend, if you haven't had tint before. Not sure of your tinting past lol
