If you're going to kill yourself please make sure you do it live on camera.
If not, grin and bear it and MOVE the $@%! ON.

What were you charged with? Why would you commit a criminal act? I think you need to take English lessons before you'll be hired.
You also didn't give anyone enough detail for them to provide you with advice.

Thanks for the responses. No, I am not going to kill myself. Just needed to get that rant out of my system. Feeling better. Back to sending out resumes tomorrow. And to the person who asked me to get English lessons, please elaborate. I would really love to get some constructive criticism. Maybe it is my English skills (or lack thereof, as you insinuate) that is hampering my job search. So could you kindly point out my spelling and grammatical errors and I will try my best to improve them :) .

I may have missed it but if I read between the lines and use my powers to read people thoughts via interweb...I think...maybe....you are a little bitter with your life choices
Whatcha do for the criminal record? If you are in debt and unemployed you don't really need all those electronic gadgets anyways. I would advise you to still try to find work in an office setting of some sort, that way when you get your pardon, you at least have a little bit of experience in the "office" area.
Seriously, take it from a old guy, life gives and takes, good times and bad, its a constant roller coaster of ups and downs. Easy to say / hard to do, chin up, it will get better.
PS... you post 1 minute faster then me :)

Now that I look around, a lot of people are in the same boat with student loans and unemployment. Just gotta grin and bear it and move on.

Hey, I guess I also posted a minute after you. It's not that I don't need those electronic gadgets. It's just that in the world we live in today, it is important to stay connected. The phone breaking down put me over the edge. And you are right. I am not happy about the choices that I made. I wish I could go back and change a lot of them. As far as the experience goes, I worked for 3 years in a customer service position in a bank. Something to get me by while I was in school. Got loads of volunteer experience along with working with 2 startups setting up an accounting system along with some internal controls in order to get them used to financial reporting as they grow. The economic landscape is slowly getting better, but it is disheartening when I try to send out targeted resumes everyday but receive no interviews. I've received 4 phone calls in the last 5 months. And they were to confirm the information that I had given them. Oh well, that's life I guess. Thanks for the encouragement.

Once again, what was your charge?
And do you have job experience (paid or unpaid)?

I would prefer not to talk much about the charge. Rest assured, it wasn't anything financial. No theft, or fraud or drugs or such. 3 years of customer service experience in a bank (obviously not relevant to accounting). 6 months of relevant experience (I would think) working with the 2 startup business. I also have had other jobs, but I do not include them on my resume since they are not relevant (retail; before I started school). Was a volunteer baseball coach for 2 years. Also volunteered a couple of other one time events. Worked on a consulatation project for the food bank along with a whole bunch of people. Thats all I can get off the top of my head.

You need to get more accounting experience. If that has to be unpaid, so be it. But more degrees and qualifications is not going to improve the situation. You can only go so far with knowledge. If it hasn't been translated to business productivity, companies won't care. Thus, improve your experience will improve your chance of landing a paid position.

stop blaming everyone for your failures - you have blamed everyone but yourself for your shortcomings. Its not your fault you have a record? its not your fault you enrolled in a degree you didnt want? it's Apple's fault your iphone and laptop broke? Its your friend's fault for not getting you a job? Take accountability. Have you gone to any recruiters? Does your school not post placements? Have you applied for internships? You have told us what everyone else has done to screw you over, what have you done to help yourself?

I just graduated from a "college" in Toronto with a Bachelors degree in Accounting. Mistake number 1. I fell for their **** hook, line, and sinker. By the time I realized the perception the market has of this degree, it was too late. So I decide to finish up. That was mistake number 2. That caused me to end up with $60k in student loans. And now I'm worried. So I decide to go and differentiate myself by attempting the Cfa. Get level one done with a more than full course load. I should have known that everyone and their mothers would have a Cfa. Everyone talks about networking. So sure, I'll go and start networking amongst my friends first. After all, they have good jobs and seem to be on the in with management and hr (or so they say). That led to nowhere at all. I was persistent. Contacted people as much as I could. I didn't want them to get me a job. Give me some tips on my resume. Oh, you say my resume looks really good. Then I would love to have the contact info of a manager who is responsible for hiring decisions. Eventually, these 'friends' stopped replying. These are the same people I recommended for jobs at a retail place in high school. Oh, the biggest mistake of all. Trusting my family. That helped me end up with a criminal record. Even worse, I thought the system was on the side of justice. How was I to know my lawyer would drag the thing out for a year and a half and then tell me my best option was a plea. I was young and naive. And now, my laptop dies last week and my iPhone departed today. So, in the midst of severe depression, I would like to thank the following people:
Thank you to the legal aid lawyer, who took a whole year and a half to bring that plea to me. You treated me like crap and I hope you get your just rewards.
Thank you to my parents, who taught me that getting a degree was the most important thing in life. You are getting your just rewards.
Thank you to my 'friends', who taught me that there are no such things as friends. You will get your just rewards.
And. Thank you to Apple. First the laptop. Then the iPhone. I'm counting down the hours till this iPad takes it heavenly journey. Your stock will crash and burn. No seriously. The 7 inch iPad will cannibalize the sales of the regular iPad. You will get your just rewards.
Now that I got that out of my system, anyone got any advice for me? I am lost in a sea of letters. BBA, CFA, CSC, CPH. I don't have money to do the CMA or CGA. A CA will not do me any good right now. I'm a year away from being able to apply for a pardon. I'm lost. And I'm not sure how much longer I can go on like this.
I am extremely interested in this!!! What did your family do???
On the flip side, half of your peers are in similar situations so keep sending those resume.

The fact that he is $60,000 in debt suggests that he might have studied at Rotman Commerce.

If you can't get an accounting position with a rotman degree then you seriously have to look inwards and figure out what you are doing that is not working. All of my friends who took accounting at Rotman ended up in big 4. The one's that had below average grades and no social skills ended up working at smaller accounting firms, the government, or other non accounting corporations.

No. The op should consider abandoning doing office jobs period. With a criminal record, no one will hire him after background check. If he went to do labors jobs like doing yard work / trucking for a living etc. No one would care if he has a criminal record.

The OP said "college" not university. Lol, let's play 50 questions and see if we can figure out the criminal charge. The illegal marriage gets my vote right now.
Btw, as for advice, get in touch with a recruitment agency. They have more connections and tend to know about new job openings. Also, the recruiter wants to get you hired so they can receive a commission (they might even help with branding you as a good candidate). At this point, settle for an entry level job, AP/AR clerk or Junior Acountant job. GL!

If there any way you can get a pardon? Your criminal record is by far your biggest hurdle. It makes you immediately unemployable at a lot of companies, regardless of what the charge was for.
stop blaming everyone for your failures - you have blamed everyone but yourself for your shortcomings. Agreed on all these point.

The criminal career is still an option. Local gangs are hiring, get applying!
Lots of job fairs in prisons.

I thought the responses were insightful and funny. However, you should learn some semblance of grammar. I usually sorry for ******, but not this time. If you don't have good advice to give, don't troll.
