The Release Preview follows on from the Developer Preview and the Consumer Preview and it is the latest pre-release (free beta) before the commercial launch of Windows 8 (Oct. 8?).

----------
There might be some confusion as to the release date: release to manufacturing date and release to retail date. RTM happens usually 2-3 months before RTR.

The reason why they are delaying launch is most likely to get OEMs to ship with 8. I'm going to give this a spin but at first time of trying 8 it was a flop so I'm not holding out much hope on this version.
Windows 7 is now the new Windows XP.

Until January 2013 I believe, same as the consumer preview.

I agree with this. I was WAY under impressed with W8. I have a dual boot W7 and Ubuntu machine. Now that wine has become more advanced on Linux, I am finding myself logging into windows much less frequently any more.

I will definately buy Windows8.. but an OEM version, I will be doing that when it comes out and I'll just buy a 16GB RAM kit and get the OEM windows8 ;) I know with windows7 its $100 for the OEM version.
Oddly enough I installed it on my friends pc as well as my PC, to this day the same key works no problem on either computer and there are no issues.

I installed it on a spare PC. Not sure if I like it. I guess all change takes a while to get used to, just seems kinda confusing to me. Took me a bit just to figure out how to shut off the pc. sheesh.
