So I have been doing a lot of research online and found that lots of Hyundai Owners experience "Air Bag Light" issue.
I have a 2005 Hyundai Tucson with 84000km.
I emailed the CEO after multiple failed attempts at the dealership as I did not believe the Air Bag light should go be on with less than 100000km, they advised only has a 3 years 60,000km warranty. Didn't know Seat Belts/Air Bags are covered under 3 years warranty only. Hyundai does not offer any courtesy repair or discounts to any of their customers. (Chrysler Does)
The email I wrote to the CEO...

Hi Steve,
I have purchased a Hyundai Tucson V6 FWD 2005 used from a Hyundai Dealership. I had experienced issues with an unstable wobble past 100km/hr on the highway. That issue was rectified by me purchasing 4 brand new tires from the Hyundai Dealership. I also experienced a ticking noise from the engine area, which was rectified by changing the serpentine belt at the Hyundai dealership. I understand the issues can be caused by normal wear and tear. Overall I am a very happy Hyundai owner and would recommend/consider my next vehicle as a Hyundai.
The issue I'm currently facing is my Air Bag light, which has been on for the last 2 months. The car has 84,000km and I can't see how there can be an issue with the air bag? I can't consider this as normal wear and tear on the car but more than likely a manufacturing defect or bad engineering/batch of part. I have called several dealerships in my local area and they want $90+taxes to reset the computer/diagnose the issue which I do not believe I should be paying for.
I do not believe any vehicle safety components (Air Bags, Seat Belts, etc) should fail or malfunction under such low mileage vehicle (84,000km).
I would like to know what Hyundai will do to assist me in this matter.
Thanks,

Email reply I received from Hyundai Customer Service (Guess the CEO passed it down to someone who doesn't have any authority to help with anything or make any exceptions)
Good day Mr. XXX
Thank you for the additional information.
We would invite you to book an appointment with any Hyundai dealership for further testing. Unfortunately, the dealership may charge you some diagnostic fees because the warranty expired on February 16, 2010.
Should you have any other concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us back.
Regards,

So I wrote this up to see if anyone else owning a Hyundai is going through with Air Bag related issues. I will be reporting this to NHTSA
I ended up spending $933 to replace both front Impact Sensors. And warranty on these new sensors will only be 1 years/20000km. How can both sensors go bad at the same time? Doesn't make sense.
I encourage everyone to go to this website
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/complaints/
And you can search for Vehicle Complaints, you will see "Air Bag" is a big one.

What doesn't make sense is how those sensors went bad but especially more do with why you paid that much. Holy crap.
Oh btw thr reason Chrysler will sometimes 'courtesy' fix a problem is most likely because its a small/known issue and everything they made in the past was complete garbage and they want to win back some old/new customers. I would never buy a chrysler.

Op,
Nhtsa is for the us only. You need to contact transport Canada. Google transport Canada road safety defects should take you to the right place.
Usually, manufacturers are sensitive to safety issues because they may lead to government investigation and a costly recall/ bad press

My 2003 Sonata with 250,000km randomly got an air bag light on a couple months ago. I went to Belleville Hyundai, paid $50 to have the code diagnosed and fixed, and they could not connect with their obd machine. They tried multiple times, it connected to other modules but would not connect to the air bag module.
They said because of this, it means the module is likely faulty and would need replacing. Cost to do that was around $900, which is half the value of my car.
Since air bags are not required to pass a safety, I decided not to fix it.

I will have to check with Transport Canada on this one.. I also filed a complaint to the BBB but no response.
At least Chrysler will acknowledge their issues ans provide you with some help on the repair bill.
Looks like Hyundai doesn't give a crap about anyone...

Well they have to save money some where to have competitive pricing. They can't go round fixing things for free especially for something non-essential like the air bag. Who needs them?

When you crash, you will want them. If that was the case, Hyundai should just not include air bags. If you can't do it right, don't do it.

On my 2002 Honda Accord Se v6... one day the SRS light (i think it was came on). The code reader said it was my driver seat buckle that was causing the issue. I went and checked Honda Canada's website and this issue was not covered under warranty. I had the car about 8-9 years that that point. I went on Honda USA's website and they said it would still be covered under warranty. So I called Honda Canada up to complain. They ended up fixing it for free.
I got rid of that car and now have a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. if an air bag light comes on, i will definitely click that link.

I thought all Hyundais have 5 year/100,000km warranty?
Really don't see why only the airbag module would have 3 yr warranty.. it's not a wear item... if that's the case I'd think that's false advertising since it's not mentioned anywhere...
outside of the warranty you're pretty much out of luck though...
touch wood my 2004 Elantra is still going pretty strong :)
btw... went to the NTHSA website and searched for your car.. don't see much airbag related issues... just 1 report of not deploying... others don't have any info... =/

Hyundai's warranty is at most 5 years/100k km on something like this (http://www.hyundaicanada.com/pages/about/Warranty.aspx). I would imagine the diagnostic is only covered for three years, if there is a failed part, then it would be included in the 5 year warranty. Most manufacturers give a 5 year/100k km warranty on the SRS system parts. That would still mean that you are over two years out of warranty, regardless of mileage. Things can fail on any car, it's a fact of life. Unless you bought the car very recently (say within the last six months) I don't see how Hyundai has any obligation to fix your problem. Your best bet though is to actually call their customer service line, those are the people setup to deal with situations exactly like yours. Your attempt to escalate it to the top, will get you nowhere. Do you really think the CEO has time to deal with every irate customer? He probably gets a hundred e-mails like yours a day that his poor secretary responds to in a similar manner. Call the appropriate customer service line, explain the situation, you might still be partially reimbursed on a goodwill basis.
The issue with internet information, is it's quite often wrong, misleading, or doesn't apply to your specific problem. How many cars have an SRS light on due to an accident? Not to mention a SRS light can mean a hundred different things. Just because you found a few other people on the net with a similar problem (I hope you're not just searching Hyundai SRS light), does in no way mean it's endemic to that vehicle or the brand. Reminds me of a customer a few years ago. Was driving along and the driver's side airbag deployed "for no reason". On inspection, there was visible fresh damage to the left frame rail, right underneath where the side impact sensor was. Must have driven over some debris without realizing it. He came in with stacks of papers printed off the internet showing SRS problems with that brand and refused to accept our diagnosis, in his mind he was convinced it was a defect. The manufacturer and his insurance company both agreed that whatever hit the frame tripped the impact sensor and the airbag system worked correctly, nothing would change his mind. He ended up paying for the repair out of pocket, about $2k with a discount if I remember right

doesn't the 2005 hyundai have 10/yr comprehensive and 10/yr powertrain warranty, OP, if you have a used 2005 hyundai, your warranty isn't honoured?

It is 5 Years and 100000km on Power Train.
Electrical is 3 Years /60000km... which is what Air Bag products are covered under.
C'mon, safety equipment and they wouldn't help... with such low mileage.
I have a Jeep and it has 110000km 07 and they replaced the seat belt buckle out of warranty once i told them its a safety component and they shouldn't fail too soon. I will by Chrysler because of the customer service.

7 years and 84,000 is hardly "low mileage".
Your car is out of warranty...too bad so sad.

my 07 entourage has been showing its airbag light the last 5000 km. i tried resetting and ck
hecking sensors but nothing appears obvious. i've started looking for an srs scanner in the hope of solving the problem myself.
